Wiz Khalifa – Roll Up: Sick New Hip-Hop

Wiz Khalifa announced that his debut major label release Rolling Papers would be coming out on March 29th. This cd is going to make Wiz Khalifa the biggest thing in hip-hop this year in my opinion. I can’t think of any other rapper going into the mainstream scene with such a massive fan base. I’ve posted a lot of Wiz Khalifa on the site, a best of compilation mixtape The Chronic 2010, some real sick remixes and more. Now I’ve got what looks to be one of the first new singles off his debut release called ‘Roll Up’, and this song is pretty sick. Has real laid back flow, but sounds solidly produced. I can’t wait to hear more new Wiz Khalifa, but hope it stops sounding like Wiz changing for the mainstream. Check it out, chill and enjoy!

Honestly, this song is a huge step down for Wiz imo. It sounds like a more boring version of that Nelly song. Hopefully the rest of the album isn’t an appeal to the mainstream like this track is.

The goal of every rapper is to make it big. Wiz finally did it, so his music is going to sound more like this, and less like his mixtapes from 3 years ago. Same thing happened to Wayne. You just have to look at his old music as classics, and take his new music for what it is.

This isn’t a bad song, but it’s so obviously mainstream from Wiz’s normal style that makes it disappointing.

Every recording artist posting on this forum knows that artists have different inspirations and takes on musical intricacies when recordings with different people. Just because Wiz is taking a different approach to a single doesn’t mean that his entire lyrical mindset is going to be forever changed. You can’t always please everyone. Have faith!
