Electric Forest Defines the Idea Of A “Secret Set” With Skrillex, Datsik, 12th Planet, SNAILS, Mr. Carmack and Big Gigantic [Editorial + Photo + Video]Posted in Bangin, Chill, Events, News by Bryan | Tags: 12th Planet, Big Gigantic, Carmack, Cherub, Crizzly, Datsik, Electric Forest, Honeycomb, Mr. Carmack, OWSLA, Secret Sets, Selection, Skrillex, SNAILS, Team Supreme, Vaski
Make sure to follow the TSIS Instagram here for more exclusive photos and videos from EF posted daily.
Even before the now infamous TSIS secret closing party with Big Gigantic and Cherub, which took place on top of RV’s in General Admission camping the last night of Electric Forest, Thissongissick.com already had two other epic secret sets under our belts that will go down as festival folklore for years to come.
We were slated to curate the “Good Life” stage located in VIP camping on Friday night and amassed a collection of bass brethren to throw down a very rare b2b2b2b2b2b take-over that kicked off at 3AM. After decimating the main stage crowd with a close out set, OWSLA head honcho and Jack Ü co-captain Skrillex lead the charge and was joined behind the decks by Firepower Records ace Datsik, SMOG general and last minute festival addition 12th Planet, vomitstep aficionado Snails, pizza-gang advocate and crunk-step innovator Crizzly, and dubstep maverick Vaski.
All six DJs/producers took the stage together across four CDJs. The song selection was nothing short of organized chaos as bass banger after bass banger melted the faces of all 1000+ attendee’s that packed the very intimate tent till just past 6AM.
Recreating something as stacked and intimate as this set was a daunting challenge, but a series of blessed events opened the door for another secret set Saturday night. This time marked our first return to the luminous forest since the iconic 2012 TSIS secret set that gave birth to Big Grizmatik (Big Gigantic + GRiZ + Gramatik). One of the most forward thinking producers in the game Mr. Carmack was chosen as man to start the night off, and ended up delivering much more.
As we commandeered the Grand Artique stage around 4:30AM, Mr. Carmack took a seat and went into the mix for 4 hours and played the perfect blend of soul, funk gritty bass, hip-hop and more. He not only unloaded an uncountable amount of unreleased originals and remixes from himself and friends, but then moved into mo-town hits, R&B classics and more for one of the most eclectic sets anyone in attendance had ever experienced.
There was a cast of other artists from the festival that were set to follow, but Mr. Carmack was nailing the vibe so perfectly that they allowed him to keep going.
Then, something magical happened toward the middle / end of Mr. Carmack's set. Newcomer hip-hop MC Honeycomb started beatboxing over the producer's funky beats. Having picked up on the vibes from the sidelines, the two were soon accompanied on stage by The Fungineer members Lafa Taylor, Kyrian Bobeerian and Honey LaRochelle, who delivered an unbelievable display of vocal talents alongside bass player Simply B (Brandon B Barker). It became a completely organic live band that even saw Carmack switch from Traktor to drum duties.
This unintentionally became one of the most outrageous and unexpected live musical experiences we've been apart of yet, and was further enhanced by a pristine sunrise that spread throughout the forest.
To be completely honest, we aren't sure if any other festival could house something so special and secretive compared to what the Thissongissick secret sets at Electric Forest became this year. We'd like to thank the Electric Forest team for the opportunity to craft these very special parties, and both Ryan Hug and Michael Silberman for their added assistantce. But most importantly, we'd love to thank those who attended these unforgetable performances with us so late in the evening. You best believe that 2016 will see another round of secret sets sponored by Thissongissick, so start planning your Electric Forest trip now! Enjoy

This year's Electric Forest festival in Rothbury, Michigan just completed its fifth year, and its best yet! The festival is known for having countless secret sets and suprises throughout the weekend, and the magnitude of what took place over the four days was quite staggering.
Thissongissick.com have thrown various late night parties in the past, including the first ever Big Grizmatik set (Big Gigantic, Gramatik and Griz together) amongst many more. We had some of the most epic parties this year, from a legendary Skrillex b2b Datsik b2b 12th Planet b2b Snails b2b Crizzly b2b Vaski set on Friday, an epic three and half hour Mr. Carmack set in the Forest on Saturday night, and one of the most unique parties we've ever been apart of.
On the last night of the festival, we went over to General Admission camping to team up with the "Holy Ship Fam" to throw an afterparty on top of an RV consisting of Big Gigantic's Dominic Lalli and Cherub's Jason Heubert both DJing, while Jeremy Salken went in on the drums. This became a make-shift stage, which quickly gathered well over a 1500 people below. They played live versions of some Big G classics and party anthems from Cashmere Cat, Trippy Turtle, Skrillex and more for the truly perfect unexpected ending set to a truly epic festival.
If you were one of the lucky fans to attend this party, you won't be ablt to forget this party that lasted until the sun was beginning to rise and then everyone dispersed for the final time.

Recently the creator of Minecraft and active EDM enthusiast Markus Persson has become a multi billionaire and has been spending his money in some pretty amazing ways. Just earlier this year he bought one of the most outrageous houses in LA and had a house party with Skrillex, Diplo and many others.
Well today we bring you his latest shenanigan, a 20,000 person private party thrown in the middle of Los Angels Memorial Coliseum, under a massive pitched up tent where some of the most epic visuals were projected onto the entire ceiling. He brought out DJ icons Skrillex, Diplo, DJ Snake and even rappers Rae Srremmurd. He did this to celebrate E3, which for those outside of the gaming world is the biggest trade show of the year in gaming with all the newest products getting debuted (Think of it as the SXSW of the gaming world).

We couldn't be more excited for one of our favorite festivals of the year, Electric Forest that takes place in Rothbury, Michigan. The festival that's now in it's 5th year is known not only for it's incredibly diverse lineup, but the now infamous Forest setting that it takes place in, and the interactive art installation filled "Sherwood Forest" that you can roam around in and catch unexpected surprises. The festival sold out under 24 hours after revealing it's lineup this year. We have a very special opportunity to send a lucky winner and their friend to the festival with not only tickets but they will even get to hang out with Big Gigantic at the private Artist's Pool area, get to watch them on stage during their set and even get to skip the line at some of the artist meet and greets. Enter the CONTEST BELOW
This year's year includes acts Bassnectar, Skrillex, Kaskade, Flume, The String Cheese Incident, Big Gigantic, Carnage, Break Science, Borgeous, Claude VonStroke, Datsik, Flux Pavilion, G-Eazy, Gramatik, ODESZA, Alison Wonderland, Galantis, SNAILS, Crizzly, Matoma amongst many many more.
For the 3rd year in a row, TSIS will have our booth set up at the Tripolee stage where we will be running meet and greets with some of the festival's best artists. This year we'll be hosting Galantis and Borgeous
Last night completed the second exciting day of music of Governor's Ball Music Fesival which takes place annually in New York City. The 4 year old festival has quickly become one of the leading events in the country, blending a perfect balance of some of the coolest acts on the rise along with mainstream icons.
Australian's latest tastemaker to explode globally is Flume, who had one of the most anticipated sets of the weekend. With this being the very first date of his impressive American summer music festival tour, and an incredibly overdue followup album that is expected to be done or near completion, the hype couldn't be bigger for him to preview some unreleased music.
Well, he started his set with a roaring, packed crowd as the sun was on its way down. He played a variety of the hit songs from his first album alongside popular remixes. Then he let the crowd know that he had something new for us; he previewed a song that could only be described as his take on house music. We have a near 3 minute video of the new song that has some incredible signature melodies and infectious dance grooves. It sounded like it had some inspiration from his future classic label mate Hayden James.
He also played an epic remix of Notorious B.I.G. that I can only assume he made as a summer festival weapon.
The last track of the evening was another new one, yet this sounded far, far different then anything we have ever heard from Flume. This sounded like his version of a festival trap anthem. (And I never thought I'd say trap anthem and Flume in the same sentence.) From the outrageous tribal sounding 808s and unreal drums and screeching synths, this is totally a new side of Flume. We have an almost 2 minute video of this track as well.
Watch the videos below, and do not miss Flume as he is playing a large amount of festivals and headline shows all summer. We will keep you posted on any news regarding all of the originals he played.
