Trendsetting future funk, electro-soul pioneer Griz is in the midst of an epic year after releasing his biggest project to date and selling out the legendary Red Rocks over a month in advance. He took a different approach on his previous album, Say It Loud, by conducting studio jam sessions with a multitude of musicians, and recording those sessions to sample and create a unique, original product. Now he’s revisited his roots on a brand new project.
Grant Kwiecenski aka Griz is just too good to us. He’s decided to treat fans with a surprise 9-track mixtape titled Chasing The Golden Hour Pt. 1, and like his previous releases, is available as a free download. Griz is constantly expanding his sound, and this new project is no exception as he draws influence from the golden age of hip hop throughout the 9 tracks for a summer-inspired timeless sound going back to his production roots.
There’s an easygoing energy captured throughout the mixtape as Griz aimed to "recreate the carefree good vibes you feel when it’s just about sunset on the perfect summer evening and everything is the most beautiful shimmering tint of gold.” Each song seems to evoke a airy happiness like we previously heard on singles “Summer ’97” and “Feelin’ High.” Ranging from J-Dilla inspiration to sensual and soulful jazziness, he masterfully blends samples with new original instrumentals and production that blurs nostalgia with his forward thinking sound.
While Griz stepped away from utilizing samples on Say It Loud, he’s perfectly used this craft on his new mixtape / album series to capture a nostalgic, yet timeless, summertime vibe. This mellow project is the perfect music to kick back to and combines his forward thinking production abilities with soulful, jazzy, R&B style smooth instrumentals with a tasteful touch of his gritty bass that effortlessly comes together and is simply accessible to listeners of all backgrounds & generations. As said by the man himself "Chasing The Golden Hour is that magical moment, it is the cool breeze against your back, it is sweet summer swagger in music form. Enjoy the chilled out vibes :)

Leon Bridges & MICK Release “Coming Home To Texas” Mixtape : Must Hear Soul / Hip-Hop Tape [Free Download]Posted in Bangin, Mixtapes / Albums by Jake | Tags: Coming Home To Texas, Free Download, Leon Bridges, MICK
26 year old Leon Bridges has exploded into the soul / gospel world this year with his breakout debut album Coming Home gaining huge support. Now his critically acclaimed album has been brought back to his Texas roots with a new mixtape by Brooklyn based producer MICK titled “Coming Home To Texas,” in which the album is reworked to infuse the sound of the original album with dirty south rap.
This new project brings on verses from Texas hip hop heavyweights Bun B and Slim Thug as well as some signature samples thrown in from UGK and Geto Boys. The chopped & screwed hip hop vibe fits surprisingly well with Leon’s smooth vocals as MICK explained “Leon Bridges is an underground king who made a classic album with a timeless sound. I wondered what would happen if I remix that with timeless classics from his home state of Texas? This is the result.” Grab the free download and enjoy!

Album leaks have become a common occurrence in the age of the internet, and they seem to be almost unavoidable for most artists. While some make a big fuss about leaks, The Weeknd himself leaked an 18-minute album preview following the surfacing of Beauty Behind The Madness, which is scheduled for an August 28 release via Republic.
Abel has been on an absolute tear on Billboard charts this year and it seems like you can’t even leave your house without having one of his tracks infiltrate your eardrums. He continues this trend on the new album which includes previous hits “Often,” “The Hills,” “Can’t Feel My Face,” along his Lana Del Rey collab titled “Prisoner,” which we featured earlier. Check out his album preview and support him by preordering on iTunes.
