Robin Thicke and Pharrell To Pay 7.3 Million For Plagiarizing Marvin Gaye With ‘Blurred Lines’

Posted in Bangin, Chill, News by nick

Pharrell Williams Marvin Gaye

Robin Thicke and Pharrell were recently accused for plagiarizing Marvin Gaye's "Got To Give It Up" with their #1 hit "Blurred Lines".

They have just been convicted of intellectual property infringement and the jury has awarded a massive $7.3 million dollars to Marvin Gaye's family.

Listen to both the songs below and you can hear the obvious similarities in the production and overall composition of the songs. It's pretty insane for such massive and respected artists, Pharrell specifically, to blatantly copy such a popular song.

LA based producer AWE has always pushed the boundaries of Future Bass, Trap, and Bass music; taking elements from all over and truly carving his own sound. Today his latest target for a remix is Skrillex and Diplo's debut single as powerhouse duo Jack Ü's, "Take Ü  There". As always, AWE pushes sounds further then you could imagine leaving us with something that is almost impossible to toss a label on, yet he is using "Future Trap" to get the message across. This is not for the feint of heart, as it will rattle your spine from the very first drop. This is taken from OWSLA's newly announced Spring 2015 Compilation which is out next week. Mysteryland USA 2015 Lineup Is Out Of Control Featuring Porter Robinson, Diplo, Kygo, Dillon Francis, Madeon and 100 more!

Mysteryland Lineup

The incredible folks at ID&T who are responsible for both iconic and globally renown festivals TomorrowLand and TomorrowWorld expanded their first live event Mysteryland to the US last year and it was quite a success. The festival took over the same location as the historic American music festival Woodstock 69' which provided the perfect backdrop to the new festival. The festival will be returning over the weekend of May 23rd – 24th this year.

Just minutes ago festival organizers unleashed the lineup for the 2015 edition of the festival, and man did they step it up for year two.

Headliners include Diplo, Kygo, Dillon Francis, Porter Robinson, Madeon, Robin Schulz, GRiZ, Gramatik, The Martinez Brothers, Netsky and so many others!

This year’s festival also has an exceptionally well-curated lineup featuring a massive spread of genres.

With the likes of tropical wonderkid Kygo headlining the main stage it’s evident that the “Tropical House” explosion is not slowing down anytime soon. Rising stars Bakermat and Klingande are sure to help cement this wave of popularity as well.

Another group making an impact are all of the Electro-Funk/Soul acts like heavyweights Griz and Gramatik holding it down with Manic Focus which are all live acts that are sure to not disappoint.

Most impressive seems to be that American festivals such as Mysteryland are starting to curate lineups that include pioneers in the deep house and tech house genres. For tech house we have the much talked about Ibiza legends The Martinez Brothers headlining the Flying Circus stage on Sunday along with Martin Buttrich.  You know deep house is alive and well at Mysteryland when you have artists like UK’s Maya Jane Coles and Matthew Dear curating their own stage.

Although mainstream electronic music has been scaled back, Mysteryland still secured some all time favorites such as Porter Robinson, Diplo, Dillon Francis and Bro Safari. Overall a very well rounded line up that is sure to please.

Grab tickets to the festival before they sell out!

"Home" is a special song as it is also marks the debut of Madeon using his own vocals in one of his tracks. We get an uplifting electro house heater full of his signature unbelievable melodies. Something about his tracks always carry out a retro 80's feeling and this is no different, possibly thanks to the synths and cinematic drums. Geek x VRV - Electric City Cover

We first featured Paris based duo The Geek x VRV after they won our remix contest with ODESZA for the song "All We Need" which ended up with a Ninja Tune release and placement on our Soundcloud. The rest of the electro-soul meets future bass release is full of soulful energy with a defined "Electric" sound that lives up to the EP's name. They keep things relatively chill except for "Believe In Me" and "I Loved You" which are the definite bangers of the release. You can now stream the EP in full below; featuring 5 originals and 2 remixes from Late Night Radio and CloZee, and you can pick up a free download thanks to All Good Records. Enjoy!

Kendrick Lamar Freestyles Over Notorious B.I.G. Instrumentals

Kendrick-Lamar-The-Blacker-The-Berry

Kendrick Lamar took the rap world by storm with his major label debut album Good Kid M.A.A.D. City, and now the Compton rapper will be delivering his follow-up album this month. Kdot's still untitled new album is set to release in under 2 weeks on March 23rd via Aftermath / Interscope Records.

In respect to the anniversary of Notorious B.I.G.’s death, Kendrick offered a freestyle over the instrumentals to Biggie’s “The What” on Big Boy’s radio show.

In the grainy recording Kendrick goes hard per usual, showing he is worthy of spitting over instrumentals belonging to one of rap’s greatest legends. This three minute freestyle shows he isn’t afraid to speak his mind with one line relating the political parties to gangs:

"Ain't nothin' new But a flow of new DemoCrips and ReBloodicans / Red state vs. a blue state / Which one you governing?”

Kill Paris-Space Forest-Single Art

LA / Boulder based producer Kill Paris has released two successful EPs with Skrillex’s OWSLA record label, but recently announced the launch of his very own record label Sexy Electric Records. The first release on the label will be his debut studio album Galaxies Between Us, and today we have the premiere of the very first song “Space Forest”.

The song has Corey, aka Kill Paris experimenting with some new sounds and styles as we get a spacey, ambient electronic journey. Some people call it Future Bass, Kill Paris is calling it "Heavy Chill", which makes sense after listening. Before you have a second to realize what just happened the song is gone as quickly as it came, leaving you wanting so much more. This only gets us excited for what else this album has in store for us. Listen to the premiere below and grab an exclusive free download for our readers.

Kill Paris is also embarking on his biggest run of shows to date with a full North American headline tour stopping at over 40 cities. He will also be bringing around TSIS favorite Louis Futon as direct support for most of the tour, and Bees Knees will be supporting as well. See the full list of dates below. Enjoy!

Kygo – Firestone Ft Conrad (Music Video)

kygo1

Kygo continues to cement his rise to the top by releasing an official music video for his debut original single "Firestone" featuring singer Conrad. The video's story line is a guy chasing a girl, but done in a very unique fashion. He runs through buildings, and ends up at a house party that Kygo is playing and what looks like a cameo from Dillon Francis. As he storms through the doors in what seems like an alternate reality, ultimately ending with his prize. It's a cool video that brings an amazing single to life. Watch below and you can pick up your own copy through iTunes today. Enjoy!

Dolly Parton

Some of the best remixes are those taking genres out of their expected guidelines and that's exactly what we get with a surprising remix of "Jolene" originally by Dolly Parton. The exploding disco force coming out of Norway, Todd Terje has been on fire and this is the first time he makes an appearance on TSIS. He takes the iconic country song and reimagines it at a near 6 minute disco meets house remix that is unbelievably refreshing. Todd has made this available as a free download, in full WAV form for all the DJs. Listen below and enjoy!
