[PREMIERE] Michal Menert & The Pretty Fantastics – 1 (Full Album) : Electro Soul / Funk [Free Download]Posted in Album Review, Bangin, Chill, Premieres by nick | Tags: Album, Free Download, Michal Menert & The Pretty Fantastics, Premiere
One of the electro-soul pioneers, Colorado's own Michal Menert has been working hard expanding his sound over the past year and has formed an entirely new band respectively being called Michal Menert & The Pretty Fantastics. It features 5 frequent collaborators (Marcelo Moxy, AC Lao, Daniel De Lisle, Will Glazier and Matt van den Heuvel) for a new 6 piece project.
Michal acts as the front man of the group producing all of the tracks and even lending his vocals on some of the tracks. This is a step in a more indie rock direction for Michal, while he still manages to carry over his signature beat driven electro-soul style. He channels various influences from hip-hop to various forms of rock, funk, soul and more for a unique live electronic hybrid that is a perfect extension of the Menert sound we've come to love.
We are excited to premiere the debut full release 1 EP with a full stream and coinciding free download. Listen below and grab a copy. Enjoy!
To all our U.S. readers: You can also see the group as Michal hits the road for a 36 date full length tour, see all te dates below.

Over the years Mac Miller has progressed from high school Youtube rap sensation to one of the heavyweights in hip-hop. Now he’s prepping for the 9/18 release of his 17-track forthcoming studio album, GO:OD AM and has launched a stream of the project via NPR’s first listen. Five years ago, my dance music perception was forever changed when a colleague passed along a link of UK recording trio Nero's first BBC Essential mix with the simple message, "This is the finest representation of what drum n bass / dubstep is all about." Fast forward to now, the groups legacy and stronghold amongst dance music's elite producers has grown exponentially. With the recent release of their second studio album — Between II Worlds — Nero returns to the BBC1 airwaves with a brand new 2-hour Essential Mix, which features a diverse array of what's hot now, some throw back jams, and cuts off the album. Though Nero's style has grown since the beginning , their production prowess evolved into cinematic presentations of beauty! Stream the mix below and above all, Enjoy!

Trendsetting future funk, electro-soul pioneer Griz is in the midst of an epic year after releasing his biggest project to date and selling out the legendary Red Rocks over a month in advance. He took a different approach on his previous album, Say It Loud, by conducting studio jam sessions with a multitude of musicians, and recording those sessions to sample and create a unique, original product. Now he’s revisited his roots on a brand new project.
Grant Kwiecenski aka Griz is just too good to us. He’s decided to treat fans with a surprise 9-track mixtape titled Chasing The Golden Hour Pt. 1, and like his previous releases, is available as a free download. Griz is constantly expanding his sound, and this new project is no exception as he draws influence from the golden age of hip hop throughout the 9 tracks for a summer-inspired timeless sound going back to his production roots.
There’s an easygoing energy captured throughout the mixtape as Griz aimed to "recreate the carefree good vibes you feel when it’s just about sunset on the perfect summer evening and everything is the most beautiful shimmering tint of gold.” Each song seems to evoke a airy happiness like we previously heard on singles “Summer ’97” and “Feelin’ High.” Ranging from J-Dilla inspiration to sensual and soulful jazziness, he masterfully blends samples with new original instrumentals and production that blurs nostalgia with his forward thinking sound.
While Griz stepped away from utilizing samples on Say It Loud, he’s perfectly used this craft on his new mixtape / album series to capture a nostalgic, yet timeless, summertime vibe. This mellow project is the perfect music to kick back to and combines his forward thinking production abilities with soulful, jazzy, R&B style smooth instrumentals with a tasteful touch of his gritty bass that effortlessly comes together and is simply accessible to listeners of all backgrounds & generations. As said by the man himself "Chasing The Golden Hour is that magical moment, it is the cool breeze against your back, it is sweet summer swagger in music form. Enjoy the chilled out vibes :)

My story has changed quite a lot since moving to Boulder, Colorado and starting Thissongissick back in 2010. My name is Nick Guarino and this is Thissongissick.com. We've grown a lot since, but the original goal has always stayed the same: making it easier for you to discover sick new music that you've never heard before.
