ODESZA Announce Winners For “White Lies” Remix Contest With 3 Free Downloads

Posted in Uncategorized by nick | Tags: , , , , , , ,

Seattle based duo and TSIS favorites ODESZA are quite familiar faces to our site from their outstanding breakout debut studio album In Return, to endless remixes and much more. Well last year we did a huge contest for their song "Say My Name" which helped jump start the careers of artists like Autolaser and Geek x Vrv among others. We partnered up with them once again earlier this year for their single "White Lies," which is also from In Return. To make things even more exciting, we brought one of the largest music festivals in the world into the picture, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. The winner not only gets co-signed by ODESZA, uploaded to the TSIS Soundcloud, and given a home page feature on our website, but they will also get to play a set at Bonnaroo this summer alongside ODESZA, Deadmau5, Kendrick Lamar, Flume and many many others.

Well the contest is over and we were all blown away by the response which had over 8,100 people download the stems to enter the contest, with over 586 entries to the contest totalling well over 100,000 visits. There were so many amazing entries, and now the band has chosen winners. The grand prize goes to Attom who's based out of Minnesota and delivered a suprising, extremely melodic Nu-Disco rendition of the track highlighting the original vocals and melodies in a very original way. He will be getting flown out to Bonnaroo, given full lodging at the festival camp ground, will be playing a set at the festival, and you can find his remix below where it's been uploaded to the Thissongissick Soundcloud. We are excited to see what happens for Attom over the next few months, and we can assure he is an act to keep an eye out for.

Runner ups include Jumbo P coming out of Italy, who went against the grain and went for a deeper, downtempo progressive route that turned out very cool. The third place goes to LA based electronic trio Cheat Codes who venture into the future bass side of things with a very original live indie twist that makes the remix really stand out as one of the favorites amongst some of the TSIS crew. All of these artists have very bright futures ahead of them.

Listen below to all three winning remixes and grab exclusive free downloads provided by ODESZA and Bonaroo. Enjoy!

Here are a few words on the contest from ODESZA themselves:

“Thanks to all the producers who submitted a remix and everyone that voted in the contest.  And thanks to the TSIS readers for all the support.  We’re looking forward to catching Attom’s set at Bonnaroo!” – Harrison and Clay

One of the longest running major festivals in the US, Bonnaroo recently announced it's full 2015 lineup last week.  Along with the lineup announcement, was a teaser of the Skrillex and Friends SuperJam documentary, which was filmed leading up to and during last year's groundbreaking performance. Well today the festival has released the documentary in it's entirety for our viewing pleasure.

The teaser opens with a quote from Jim Morrison, lead singer of The Doors, who's band member Robby Krieger was actually apart of this very SuperJam:

"The new generation's music .. it might rely heavily on electronics"

SuperJams are known for being themed on a specific genre of music and bringing in singers and musicians from every genre to perform outside of their expected style; well 2014 was the debut year for electronic music.  It only made sense bringing Skrillex to help host the epic set, along with Big Gigantic in which Dominic Lalli acted as the musical director and Jeremy Salken was the core drummer of the supergroup.

The laundry list of special guests included Zedd, A$AP FergLauryn HillDamian Marley, Thundercat, Mystikal, members of Incubus, Cage the Elephant, Warpaint as well as members from iconic American rock groups Grateful Dead and The Doors. Even some unexpected additions like Craig Robinson from The Office who showcased his singing skills in the mix. Seeing how an electronic curated jam session can be bringing in artists from across all genres is a massive statement for how far electronic music has come and become part of our culture.

You can now stream the entire documentary below and also through the U-verse Bonaroo website.

Also, Dominic Lalli of Big Gigantic and Paul Peck, the SuperJam's musical director and producer respectively, are both set to answer some questions about the Jam in a Reddit AMA later today (8pm EST). Connect with the Reddit AMA here > Reddit.com/bonnaroo

Bonnaroo, while might not be as internationally known as Coachella or Ultra Music Festival, is without a doubt one of the most culturally significant festivals taking place in the United States every year. Last year they had one of the most talked about festival sets of the summer with Skrillex and Big Gigantic’s SuperJam featuring members of The Doors, Grateful Dead, Fatman Scoop, Damien Marley and many many more.

The 2015 edition of the festival will take place over the weekend of June 11th – 14th in it’s iconic location of the fields in Manchester, Tennessee.

Today, the producers unleashed the lineup for this year’s festival, and damn it lives up to the hype. Featuring a wide range of headliners, from Deadmau5 to Kendrick Lamar to Mumford & Sons to Billy Joel to Bassnectar these top acts only scratch the surface of one of the most diverse festivals around.

Other massive acts include Flume, Childish Gambino, Robert Plant, Atmosphere, STS9, Jamie XX, SBTRKT, Flying Lotus, G-Eazy, Run The Jewels, Odesza, Gramatik, Rudimental, Tycho, Soja, SZA, Rustie and so many more to list out.

Check out the full lineup, and make sure to mark your calendar to get tickets on January 17th at 12pm EST. This year is sure to sell out quickly like previous years!

My story has changed quite a lot since moving to Boulder, Colorado and starting Thissongissick back in 2010. My name is Nick Guarino and this is Thissongissick.com. We've grown a lot since, but the original goal has always stayed the same: making it easier for you to discover sick new music that you've never heard before. In high school I would make mix cd's for my friends to show them all the new music I was discovering. Now, through TSIS, we work with musicians and record labels from all over the world to showcase a variety of the freshest electronic, hip-hop, indie, and alternative music to a global following that is comprised of millions of music lovers in over 110 countries - every single month. So, make yourself at home while enjoying countless amazing musicians from a variety of genres and let the sick sounds fill your ears! - Nick
