Ultra Music Festival Feared Cancellation from the City of Miami: Power of the EDM Community Shines

Ultra Music Festival announced a few months back that it would mark history with it’s 2013 event having going down as the first ever electronic music festival to extend to two weekends. Well, the Miami City Commissioner Marc Sarnoff was not too thrilled with this deceision of the second weekend, and made a hasty decision of proposing to cancel it, despite looking at the benefit, first and foremost the $79 million added revenue Ultra Music Festival added to the City of Miami last year alone. He made false accusations accusing all attendees of the event to be drug overdosing maniacs. He failed to see how massive the event was and how important it was to so many people.

Below is a copy of the actual proposal from City Commissioner Marc Sarnoff to the City of Miami.

The community fought back fast. DJ and Electronic Music Activist Tommie Sunshine started the twitter tyrant against Commissioner Marc Sarnoff, resulting in an article in the Miami Times. There was a petition that got passed around raising over 8,000 signatures really showing how fast the electronic community can voice their opinion, especially on something as strongly as getting wrongly mislabeled by a city, and threatening the expansion of the biggest event in the country.

Now the City has agreed to stop any efforts of stopping the festivals second weekend expansion and have accepted it… all of course for a $500,000 compensation fee.

Hope to see you at either of the weekends in Miami.. or both for the die hards! This is the first example of how powerful the Electronic community really is in America!
