Future funk, electro-soul trendsetter GRiZ has built up a strong fanbase over the past few years and has recently been in the process of rolling out his biggest piece of work to date. "Say It Loud" is the latest studio album from GRiZ, and his most exciting venture as an artist. Unlike his last two albums Mad Liberation and Rebel Era, where sampling endless amounts of vinyl for the perfect vocals or melodies helped define his unique sound, he did things a little bit different this time around.
For this album, Grant Kwiecenski aka GRiZ decided to set up studio sessions with artists in New York City, New Orleans, Detroit and even a cabin in the middle of Michigan where he played with some of the funkiest and most soulful musicians around, recording all of the jam sessions. Then after recording with all these talented people, he used the sessions to sample and create a truly original piece of work that is now his latest album, Say It Loud.
This is the album GRiZ has been wanting to create by using others samples for years, and now finally had the tools to be able to do it.
Songs like "A Fine Way To Die" or "Funk Party" carry out the bass infused funk sound that's helped define his unique style. Songs like "The Anthem," "It's All Good," and "Stop Trippin" all showcase a more live side of GRiZ which is made possible from all his jam sessions. One of the most impressive tracks on the album is "Headspace" which is also one of the only instrumentals to make it on the project. This extra trippy, spacey cut will have you getting lost in the ambient nature of it, reminding me heavily of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of The Moon." One of the most catchy tunes on the album is his unexpected collaboration with New York hip-hop legend Talib Kweli on "For The Love."
Like all of the music that GRiZ puts out, he has graciously made the entire thing a free download. You can grab it via pay what you want BitTorrent bundle, by entering your e-mail on his website, or picking it up via iTunes. However you do grab this record, make sure you properly enjoy it from front to back as he is one of the few artists truly creating a proper journey for the listener.

Rising electronic star GRiZ releases his first ever music video to his huge funk powered festival anthem “Smash the Funk”covering his “brief voyage as an artist” and discussing his sound as being “Electro-Soul” or “Future Funk”. The video showcases the electronic producer’s first year leaving his home of Detroit / East Lansing and living in Boulder, Colorado.
In his words :
This video is a look into my brief voyage as an artist and also behind the scenes of three sold out Colorado shows (Boulder, Denver, and Red Rocks.) I also wanted to do something completely different and have fun with the video so I took some old gear that had seen its day and retired it to the shooting range (it looks pretty badass in slow motion). I also talk a bit about what music means to me and where I have come from. Nearing the first anniversary of my debut album Mad LiberationI wanted to release this video that has been a journey itself to create.”
