Future funk, electro-soul trendsetter GRiZ has built up a strong fanbase over the past few years and has recently been in the process of rolling out his biggest piece of work to date. "Say It Loud" is the latest studio album from GRiZ, and his most exciting venture as an artist. Unlike his last two albums Mad Liberation and Rebel Era, where sampling endless amounts of vinyl for the perfect vocals or melodies helped define his unique sound, he did things a little bit different this time around.
For this album, Grant Kwiecenski aka GRiZ decided to set up studio sessions with artists in New York City, New Orleans, Detroit and even a cabin in the middle of Michigan where he played with some of the funkiest and most soulful musicians around, recording all of the jam sessions. Then after recording with all these talented people, he used the sessions to sample and create a truly original piece of work that is now his latest album, Say It Loud.
This is the album GRiZ has been wanting to create by using others samples for years, and now finally had the tools to be able to do it.
Songs like "A Fine Way To Die" or "Funk Party" carry out the bass infused funk sound that's helped define his unique style. Songs like "The Anthem," "It's All Good," and "Stop Trippin" all showcase a more live side of GRiZ which is made possible from all his jam sessions. One of the most impressive tracks on the album is "Headspace" which is also one of the only instrumentals to make it on the project. This extra trippy, spacey cut will have you getting lost in the ambient nature of it, reminding me heavily of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of The Moon." One of the most catchy tunes on the album is his unexpected collaboration with New York hip-hop legend Talib Kweli on "For The Love."
Like all of the music that GRiZ puts out, he has graciously made the entire thing a free download. You can grab it via pay what you want BitTorrent bundle, by entering your e-mail on his website, or picking it up via iTunes. However you do grab this record, make sure you properly enjoy it from front to back as he is one of the few artists truly creating a proper journey for the listener.

Electro-funk soul brother GRiZ recently released his first new original song since his Rebel Era album, after working over a year on his newest full album. The first track "A Fine Way to Die" gave us a sample of what's to come. Today we get the new album's title, Say It Loud with a March release, as a free download through his newly reformed All Good Records.
We also get the second song from the album, "Stop Trippin'", featuring guest vocals from iDA HAWK showing another glimpse of what this album has in store. With no samples, and all original recorded funk and soul instruments and vocals, GRiZ takes his sound into new territory paving the way for iDA HAWK's vocals to shine strong. This might be one of my favorite songs I've ever heard from GRiZ as he blends the live and organic elements with his signature gritty electronic edge like never before… and not to mention those unreal sax fueled drops. This song is stream only until the free release of the Say It Loud album.
To make this release even more massive, GRiZ has also just announced his first run of shows for 2015 with a fitting Say It Loud World Tour that will be hitting all over the US in coming months. Check out "Stop Trippin'" and see dates for the upcoming tour below.
GRiZ – Stop Trippin' (with iDA HAWK)
GRiZ who is one of the pioneers of the electro-soul and future funk sounds, along with artists like Pretty Lights and Gramatik, yet has managed to carve his own lane in the genre. The always impressive artist announced his own record label 2 years ago with the release of his most recent album Rebel Era which was put out as a free download as well as being on iTunes. Today, the artist is announcing a new chapter in his career with the closing of Liberated Music and the launch of All Good Records. This label, while still carrying out releases being freely available, is also a step in the direction of a full service record label as opposed to just an avenue for Grant (Griz) to distribute his own work. The label has two signed artists, mid west live funk duo The Floozies and Chicago based soul star and TSIS regular Manic Focus.
You can now follow the new All Good Records on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, but you should also visit the freshly launched website www.AllGoodRecords.com where you can hear a preview of a new GRiZ song which we can expect to see on his upcoming album Say It Loud that is dropping soon.
Also to celebrate the launch, we have the latest single from the newly reformed labels' first release, The Floozies upcoming album Do Your Thing which will be released Jan 27th. We premiered "FNKTRP" and "Fantastic Love" from the group and now have an exclusive first listen of the song "She Ain't Yo Girlfriend" which captures the signature funky Floozies sound, yet is delivered in an extra sensual manner. The vocorded vocals and the fast paced plucks only help complete the future funk classic. Listen to the premiere of the song and don't miss an exclusive free download. Enjoy!

Hangout is one of the most unique festivals in the country as it takes place literally on the beach; specifically in the heart of the south on the beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama. The lineup is always very well rounded featuring a mixture of live bands and electronic music for a guaranteed great time year after year. For electronic artists, this year we get Skrillex, Major Lazer, Griz, Gramatik, Odesza, Adventure Club, Krewella, Robert DeLong, Goldroom and more. Macy Grey, Beats Antique, Vance Joy, Toro Y Moi, Trampled By Turtles and much much more. Check out the FULL LINEUP BELOW.
Some of the TSIS crew has been in attendance for years, but this marks the first time I will personally by making it out!
Tickets for the festival are on sale tomorrow Jan 13th at 9 am CST here.
GRiZ… now where is there to start with him? A TSIS favorite artist we have been supporting through his early remixes and both full length free albums is back with some exciting news we have been waiting for.
GRiZ has been hard at work over the last few months taking the first break in his career from live shows to focus on his best original music to date. He has been working with various groups of talented musicians from all over the country, playing, jamming, and recording with them. We will have more official details surrounding this exciting new project in the next few weeks, including the album's title, release date, and more surrounding the unique creation process… but today, we get a taste of the new project.
The first song from the album is "A Fine Way To Die" which is a revamped approach to the funky soul filled signature style we've grown to love from GRiZ. The live funk influence is fused with the gritty electronic bass sounds which come to life like never before thanks to the addition of some original vocals from newcomer Orlando Napier who completes the track. Stream the track below and grab a free download thanks to GRiZ.

Also while Grant was taking a break from live shows for the first time in his career, he managed to plan a very special show to close out the year. "Grizmas" couldn't be any closer getting ready to takeover the legendary Masonic Temple in his home city of Detroit. The show is happening on December 21st and features support from ODESZA, Will Sessions and Gosh Pith. We have word there are a very limited amount of tickets left for this show, so don't wait and be forced to help scalpers. Buy tickets here.
Combining the soulful side of hip-hop with electronic elements is something that Pretty Lights first perfected, then artists like GRiZ and Gramatik carved their own lanes. The next "electro-soul" artist on the rise is most definitely TSIS favorite Manic Focus. Our appreciation for this Minneapolis to Chicago transplant runs deep as TSIS has premiered his first 3 albums Definition Of The Rhythm, Expanding Mind and Distant Perspective. Today we get the next chapter of Manic Focus with his latest album Cerebral Eclipse being released through GRiZ's new record label Liberated Music and is available in full today, as a 100% free download on top of iTunes and Spotify.
After a first few listen throughs it's abundantly clear that Cerebral Eclipse is without a doubt Manic Focus' best work to date. The 10 track album manages to stay true to the wobbly, spacey, funk-filled signature sound of Manic Focus, yet explores quite a bit of uncharted territory. The collaborations and features are strong, including "Life Goes On" with GRiZ and "Bumpin' in the Voodoo" with Dominic Lalli of Big Gigantic that have already surfaced, and "Space Scholar Synthesis" which is previously unreleased with Michal Menert. The feature list doesn't end there, Focus also recruited fellow Chicago locals Prob Cause and Eryn Kane on "Trail Blazin" and The Coop on "Travelin In My Mind". He even brought in NYC based drummer from Conspirator on "We Can Fly" which is another winner on the album. Cerebral Eclipse in it's entirety is a smooth listen blending chill and heavy elements seamlessly; quite the milestone in the booming career of the soulful artist. Listen to the record in full below, grab a free download, and if you feel inclined pick up your copy through iTunes. Enjoy!
