TSIS: Your debut album ‘Damage Control” includes over 15 tracks while other producers strictly releasing single after single, what inspired this bold statement?
MZ: It wasn’t really a conscious move to be honest. It was more for myself to experiment with new sounds and produce music that differs from my previous releases. Writing this album has been long process over the past 4 years and most of the tracks on the album now aren’t the same ones I started with back then… they’ve all evolved into different pieces and bits.
“This album is my brains translation of everything that I’m into.”
TSIS: The album features not only Electro House, Trance, Drum & Bass, but Hip-Hop and Rock influences. Is this your life time of influences all conveyed into one cohesive project?
MZ: Yes. This album is my brains translation of everything that I’m into. After listening to a bunch of different genres over the last few years, ‘Damage Control’ features the output of what I’ve made from hearing those styles of music.
As we approach the highly anticipated for up and coming producer Mat Zo debut album Damage Control, we have an exclusive premiere of a new single “Time On Your Side” featuring vocals from singer Janai. We actually had a chance to get some back story for an upcoming interview with Mat Zo running next Monday. The song started out as a “Hip-Hoppy R&B Beat” and then after having Janai record vocals, Mat wasn’t happy with how the vocals were sitting with the track and went through the effort of completely remaking the song into what he refers to as a “Kind of 90′s Poppy Song”. The vocals and melody are more then catchy, with an unexpected breakdown to set it off. This further shows how diverse the producing spectrum runs for Mat Zo.
Make sure to look out for our interview with Mat Zo running tomorrow, Friday as well as the full debut album Damage Control available Tuesday.

One of the most exciting artists in the electronic world, Mat Zo drops off a very entertaining official music video to his smash single “Pyramid Scheme” featuring Chuck D of Public Enemy from his debut studio album Damage Control. The video follows an outdoor aerobics class that gets progressively more epic and captivating to watch, somehow matching the upbeat electro track perfectly. Grab the single today and be sure to grab his new album when it drops.

Mat Zo has been working on his newest song “Pyramid Scheme” for quite some time since originally surfacing in his unreal BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. The song unofficially sampled “Can I Get A Witness” from Public Enemy and as Mat began to seek out official rights the story got sweeter. Chuck D of Public Enemy went further then giving Mat the rights, he actually recorded some new vocals for the track. Mat Zo is a big Hip-hop fan, and even bigger supporter of musicians sticking to their values. Here’s what he voice about the song:
I’m a massive hip-hop fan, so this was a big moment for me. I’d always wanted to work with a great hip-hop artist, and Chuck D is definitely one of the greatest. A lot of other MCs got jaded and starting doing commercial crap about getting wasted on bottle service at some ritzy Vegas club, while Chuck D is one of the few who stuck to their principles.”
The result is an incredible new single is an extra fresh unique sounding electro house driven anthem that will be soon enough rocking crowds worldwide. It will be getting released through Anjunabeats August 13th.

Porter Robinson and Mat Zo’s monstrous collaborative hit “Easy” commissioned a few official remixes, including a standout drum and bass rendition from UK stationed Andy C. He brings in the tracks lightly altering the original by speeding it up and adding minor beefed up drums. Then around 1:30 he lets the listener gets a powefuly blast of signature drum and bass greatness still somehow keeping the overall happy nature of the original. It’s not easy keeping the essence of an original while making it so your own. You can pick up this incredible remix alongside the remix package including Botnek, Lemaitre & ModekBright As Day through Beatport below now. Enjoy!
After Will.i.am admitted that he did in fact steal the song “Rebound” from Arty & Mat Zo for his song “Let’s Go”, he sits down with none other then the Assosiated Press (AP) to explain himself. He basically plays dumb while saying some outrageous statements.
“If you look on the album there is credit. YOU CAN’T STEAL if you credited someone.”
Does Will.i.am for some reason think that you can “steal” or “sample” parts of other commercial released songs and release them as your own by simply putting someone’s name on album credits? Is he actually this horribly misinformed or just being very sneaky and playing dumb?
“That happens a bunch of times. Where legal takes so long but creative is instantaneous. And a lot of times, the community, for the sake of the art, bond with each other.”
Wow really? Arty & Mat Zo are supposed “bond over the art” after you steal one of their tracks and give them no compensation at all and release it commercially?
“What do I know? I give it to legal I’m not no attourney. I did my piece. I gave credit to the person who did it, It’s not my fault he didn’t tell me about the other guy. So who’s to blame? I didn’t know, I wasn’t in the room when you made it. You shoulda told me you had a collaborator.”
Then he actually goes on to say that he is sorry about Mat Zo not getting his name on the album credits.. Mat Zo is probably looking for a little more then simply getting his name on the album credits, maybe getting compensated for the song Will just released commercially.
This is above legal and financial obligations. It comes down to an artist who is more popular not giving respect to lesser known artist and attempting to take advantage of him. We will keep you posted on what Will.i.am plans to do.
Listen to the shocking case of Will.i.am stealing “Rebound” from Arty & Mat Zo here or below.

Will.i.am – Let’s Go (ILLEGALLY SAMPLING MAT ZO & ARTY)
Mat Zo & Arty – Rebound (Go to 1:00) (SONG THAT WAS SAMPLED)
American muscian Will.i.am has recently been accused of stealing the song “Rebound” from Mat Zo & Arty released on internaional trance label Anjunabeats. He stole a huge section of the song and called it “sampling” in his new song “Let’s Go” which just got released on his new album. You can listen to both songs below to hear for yourself.
Well if there was any question, Will.i.am. just sat down with UK’s The Sun for an interview saying how “wrote this song to Rebound last year”.
Here’s his quotes:
“Arty is a dope producer so I wrote this song to Rebound this last year.
“I got in touch with Arty and showed it to him… but something happened and hopefully we can resolve the issue.
“It’s sad that it’s turned into a fiasco but hopefully it’s resolved, because I’m a fan of those guys. I contacted them last year and we’re fixing it now.”
So does Will.i.am somehow not understand the procedure of releasing music, and being in communication if you are going to blatantly “sample” a huge chunk of a track and call it out own.
Do you think Mat Zo and Arty will accept it? I don’t see them actually letting this song stay released, since it was never approved by either artists or the label.
Let’s also not forget Will.i.am’s previous unapproved “sampling” of Boyz Noise and Deadmau5.
