Derrick actually traveled across the country recording musicians and turned those samples to vinyls and then sampled his own personal vinyl collection. He is releasing all the vinyl he samples as a second disc apart of the release. Listen to it in it’s entirety below. Full review coming Monday. You can also pre-order the double disc vinyl and CD version of the album though his website hereMake sure to come back on July 2nd when this masterpiece is finally released. Enjoy.

Derek Vincent Smith aka electronic producer Pretty Lights has been busy truly carving his unique method of production over the past few years. It includes sampling old vinyl records by remixing and arranging them into completely unique modern sounding productions. He has self released a string of impressive albums and EP’s all completely for free, gaining him quite an impressive fanbase worldwide.
2 years ago Derek began more then impressive task of creating his newest album by using samples that he had created instead of vinyl hunting. In 2011 he started working and recording musicians from all over the world then actually pressing this recordings sessions all to vinyl records. He pressed all these recordings to build a personal vinyl collection so he could replicate his style he had crafted, but end with something 100% his own. The long awaited album A Color Mapping of the Sun, will be seeing a release on July 2nd. He will be releasing it for free like all his past releases, as well as through iTunes and physically on limited Vinyl and CD.
The video in his words:
“The first half of this video is part of a track from the Live Studio Sessions recordings. The second half is the song that was made from sampling the first recording. The purpose of the video is to show the production process of the album; homemade vinyl + modular synthesis.”
Here we have the full audio track of the first part of the video.

Kanye West decided to premiere his newest song “New Slaves” by broadcasting via video projection on buildings in 66 different cities worldwide last night, some cities included New York, Chicago, Toronto, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Berlin, Paris, and more.
Here is Kanye’s Tweet announcing the operation: (All locations available here)
This is the first sample off his upcoming new album set for a June 18th release which has guest collaborators Daft Punk and Skrillex among others. The video is a black and white version of Kanye’s face singing along to the powerful lyrics. I think we can expect this to set the tone for the upcoming album. We should expect and even more experimental artist.
One of the most hyped about album releases I have ever seen just got an appropriately epic video showing the first unboxing of the album. It shows both robots in a spaceship taking the Vinyl version of the album out of packaging for the first time ever. We get a glimpse at an epic looking piano artwork.
Then they start playing the record and we get a 15 second preview of what could be the starting track “Give Life Back to Music” from the album
Kanye West dropped a two word tweet “June Eighteen” signifying the upcoming release date for his 6th studio album. Daft Punk, Skrillex, Odd Future, Chief Keef, 2 Chainz, John Legend and more are set to be collaborators on the huge record. Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk said “Kanye doesn’t give a fuck” while Daft Punk counter part Guy-Manuel added “He’s a good friend”. They have two tracks that sprang from working together. “One of them, I told him it sounded solid and powerful – I envisioned a cube when I heard it” is what Michal Gondry (Director and longtime Daft Punk friend) had to say about hearing the tracks. Stating a music video is already in the works. The album is said to be “even darker and more twisted” then Kanye’s previous LP release. Daft Punk also added that “It was very raw, He was rapping– kind of screaming primally.”
June 18th looks to be a huge release with quite the cast. We will keep you posted on more details as they roll in.

Today we get the first official single from the album “Around the Block” and featuring none other then Talib Kweli himself. This is summer spirited electro-soul jam with a his signature hip-hop flavor, now with all original vocals from one of the most soulful rappers alive. The music video is easily one of his best to date, filled with countless visual effects giving it that certain untouchable edge. It has some frames showing Derick getting his own original vinyls pressed from musicians he recorded all over the country, then sampling the vinyl on his computer for that unique warmness. He is creating a documentary to compliemnt the album to show how unique the process really was, see the trailer for the documentary below. This is one of the songs that is so good you end up replaying the second it is done. This song is available for free download like all of Pretty Lights music. His album will be available for free on July 2nd, as wel as released on vinyl and double disc CD. Enjoy!

Daft Punk‘s truly iconic upcoming album Random Access Memories is set to release May 21st. The french duo decided to release an official trailer at Coachella on the Jumbotron screens for the album featuring the lead single “Get Lucky” featuring vocals from Pharrell. It also features guitarist Nile Rodgers from Chic, who contributed the infectious melody. Their outfits covered in sequens couldn’t be more fitting to represent such a epic song.
Also confirmed that both members Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk were at Coachella without robot heads in the VIP section and gave Pharrell a high five after the trailer played.
How much do you want to bet they will be playing a surprise set during Phoenix’s main stage set tonight at Coachella? They did used to be in a group with members of Phoenix.
Nile Rodgers talking on Daft Punk New Album ‘Random Access Memories’ for The Collaborators Documentary Episode 3Posted in Bangin, News, Video by nick | Tags: Chic, Daft Punk, Documentary, New Album, Nile Rodgers, Random Access Memories, The Creators Project
In the third episode of the incredible documentary series about the game changing new album Random Access Memories from French electronic duo Daft Punk. In Episode 3 of The Collaborators series, it highlights one of the amazing artists Daft Punk collaborated with on their new album, legendary American guitarist / bassist Nile Rodgers, frontman to band Chic and responsible for countless hits from Madonna, Duran Duran, David Bowie and countless others.
He touches on their initial relationship starting at a Daft Punk listening party and moving to him getting invited while they were recording in a New York studio.
Then diving into how great collaborations are when both artists are trying to push each other harder and both end up growing. A very true statement.

Avicii played main stage at this year’s Ultra Music Festival and through down a contreversial set debuting tracks off his new album. He collaborated with artists such as country star Mac Davis, bluegrass musician Dan Tyminski, singer Audra Mae, soul artist Aloe Blacc, Incubus guitarists Mike Einziger and Ben Kenney. His set got critsized for having too much of a country and live influence. The live instrumentation may have been a little to overwhelming for the DJ mold seen at Ultra. The funniest part is that people hated on Avicii when he would played “Levels” non stop and other typical house tracks, and now hate on the guy for stepping outside of the box and bringing in live instrumentation to house music.
He just let loose “Promo Mix 2013″ featuring a lot of the tracks he debuted at his live set. The mix basically sounds the Avicii you know with some adiditonal live elements. It spans from progressive house to some gritty electro action. Loving what I have heard so far. Listen and let us know what you think? Enjoy!
