Pretty Lights turned heads new and old with the release of his Grammy nominated A Color Map Of the Sun album that incorporated the revolutionary production method of recording to vinyl then sampling his own vinyl to create each track. Throughout the multi-year process it took to create the album, he ended up having quite a few b-side tracks that never made the cut. He has released a very special vinyl full of the B-Sides and more remixes from his album called The Hidden Shades in spirit of Record Store Day that took place this Saturday (April 19th). While they are only available to own through the limited vinyl release, we have the full stream for your listening pleasure.
The release features 4 new originals alongside 4 remixes of those new tracks from Odesza, Blue Sky Black Death, Emancipator and Love and Light. We had a taste of the release with "Lost and Found" alongside the incredible remix from Odesza.

Pretty Lights turned heads of fans new and old with his revolutionary recorded grammy nominated double disc A Color Map of the Sun album last summer and has been nice enough to stream a brand new song that didn't make the cut. The song is filled with some soulful horns, drums and vocals that Pretty Lights delivers with his gritty chopped up touch.
The song is released alongside an unbelievable remix from ODESZA that is actually apart of the Divergent movie soundtrack, following up the A$AP Rocky x Gesaffalstein collaboration. Hard to say which version we enjoy more, they are both so good. Stream below and enjoy!

T he music festival SnowBall claimed its fame by bringing a ridiculous lineup of artists to perform in the mountain towns of Vail and Winter Park. Now the event has moved to a new home right in the heart of Denver, Colorado. Pretty Lights – A Color Map Of the Sun Remixes (Album) : Must Hear Release With 16 Artists [ALBUM STREAM]Posted in Bangin, Chill, Mixtapes / Albums by nick | Tags: A Color Map of the Sun, Bass Music, Electro Soul, pretty lights, Remixes, Thissongissick
Pretty Lights has been one of the few electronic artists to never dive into the world of having other artists remix his songs, so when I heard that he was enlisting an all star cast for official remixes for the first time ever, for every track on his most recent album nonetheless, I almost lost it. On December 10th, the 16 track A Color Map Of the Sun Remixes album will release through Pretty Light Music for free and iTunes.
Today we get our the stream of the entire album with artists ranging from expected PLM favorites like Break Science, Michal Menert, SuperVision, Paul Basic and Elliot Lipp to unexpected bass heavyweights 12th Planet and Datsik. He has also enlisted a cast of some of the hottest new names in electronic music GRiZ, ODESZA, heRobust, Opiuo, Blood Diamonds, Culprate, Two Fresh and more. The entire release is very eclectic and gives the album a completely new spin. For those waiting to hear your favorite Pretty Lights songs in a whole new light, the wait is over. My personal favorites might have to be ODESZA’s take on ‘One Day They’ll Know’, the GRiZ spin on ‘Vibe Vendetta’ both personally competing with the originals for me. You can stream the entire album below thanks to Rolling Stone for premiering it and the Pretty Lights team for letting us feature it. Enjoy.

While many of us were out and about enjoying the first night of the weekend, an unexpected exchange of disses took place over Twitter between two very unlikely sources. The second show of Pretty Lights massive fall tour promoting Derek’s successful “A Color Map of the Sun” album took place in St. Louis last night and featured Fools Gold Records hip-hop lyricist Danny Brown. Danny, who is running fresh off the release of his highly acclaimed “Old” album, took to Twitter promptly after performing with these tweets:
UPDATE: After doing some digging, we’ve heard that Danny was heckled throughout his set by Pretty Lights fans. He reacted by yelling and throwing his mic into the crowd after they were unresponsive throughout his performance.
As word spread about Danny’s comments, Pretty Lights took to his fans in the wee hours of the morning to share this:
These words apparently didn’t sit well with Danny who responded by saying this about tonights performance in Nashville:
Though we are unsure if Danny Brown has officially been pulled off of Pretty Light’s Nashville bill for tonight, Derek attempted to squash the beef early this morning:
This is a very unfortunate series of events for two artists we both really respect. Sometimes combining the electronic and hip-hop worlds just doesn’t align as planned. We wish the best to both artists.
