Deadmau5 debuts new multi-genre song preview “Satellite” featuring vocals from Kat Von D

Deadmau5 continues his pattern of dropping “in progress” songs with the preview of “Satellite”. This track is insanely smooth and packs quite the punch of emotion with accompaniment of vocals from Deadmau5′s girlfriend, the famed tattoo artist, Kat Von D. The song has so many layers, both organic and electronic all coming together for a very impactful production. There is an abrupt transition at 1:18, which sounds like the Mau5 is taking a minimalistic trap inspired approach.. but I have a feeling the song is simply unfinished. As the Mau5 says “heres the intro + 1st verse for you. :)” Kat’s vocals with the production work so well. This is set to come out on Kat Von D’s upcoming debut album.

deadmau5 drops off 2 Unreleased Song Previews + Ultra Music Festival 2013 Live Set

Deadmau5 continued his regular routine of putting out unreleased previews of his upcoming tracks as he experiments with them. First off we get a 2 minute tease of “moog bass + modular” which is a smooth melodic track reminding me a little of his anthem Strobe. Then next up we hear a change of pace with “Assume Control” which hits us with a dutch house styled ending that Deadmau5 refers to as “jacked afro crap”, which he claims was unintentional. These both keep us on our toes for new Mau5.

Also included is his set from the Weekend 2 of Ultra Music Festival down in Miami a few months back. He played a suprising set spanning from some classic hits to some techy underground cuts. All in all it’s a great balanced mix that should have Mau5 fans in a frenzy. Check out the full track-list below. Enjoy!

Recess Music & Ideas Festival on Michigan State Campus ft. Kaskade & Project 46 Details + Giveaway : Formerly Glowfest [CONTEST]

One of the pioneer touring electronic festivals GlowFest who has had acts such as Pretty Lights, Deadmau5, Hardwell, Porter Robinson, Big Gigantic, and countless other top acts have gone under some serious changes and grown as a company. They are now called RECESS and are in their terms a “Music & Ideas Festival”.  The second edition of the new event will be taking place at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan on Friday April 19th, 2013. Featuring musical guests Kaskade and Project 46.

During the day RECESS is a speker series featuring an out-of-the-box progressive speaker panel during the day from 3pm – 4pm “Study Hall” (held in Business School Room N130 on Campus). Then there is “The Playground”, which is an interactive career fair at the venue from 4:30 – 6:00pm (AG Expo Field) prior to doors opening featuring 16-20 disruptive startup companies. To end the day is the word class electronic concert they are known for at Michigan State University, where they have brought out electronic icon Kaskade and rising Canadian duo Project 46. The festival is going to be the first outdoor music festival that the campus has seen, so should get extra crazy.
It’s amazing to see electronic music spawn such a potentially impactful event, reminding me of 3LAU’s Pencils for Promise campaign.

Armin van Buuren – Live Set at Madison Square Garden ASOT 600 (New York City) : Massive Trance Set

Trance legend Armin Van Buuren has established himself as one of the biggest and most respected DJ’s in the world. He has been playing shows all over the world in spirit of the 600th episode of his A State of Trance radio show, and ended it with a monstrous finale on March 30th at the legendary Madison Square Gardens playing to over 14,000+ people. He played an opening set, and then ended the night with a closing set to thoroughly shake the crowd.  He helped take everyone on a journey dropping too many trance bombs to name. Brazilian based producer Eric Farias drops us off a meldoic dubstep remix to “Sun & Moon” by Above & Beyond featuring the vocals of Richard Bedford. He takes the smooth trance track and tastefully turns it into a powerful full on bass throwing beast. He highlights all the perfect sections of the oriringal letting the bass crash just the right amount. While contemplating how best to release his newest studio material, Las Vegas based electronic producer Revolvr ultimately decided to partner up with us to take his new “Clockwork EP” directly to his fans for free. We have featured his monstrous Internet Friends Bootleg and Who Is Ready to Jump Bootleg and loved everything else we have heard from him. His Clockwork EP features two tracks both focusing on complex instrumental compositions which contain “syncopating sounds together like moving pieces in a clock, creating a single machine ticking through the pulse of music”. Mat Zo – BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix : Must Hear 2 Hour Multi-Genre Electronic Mix

The rising London based 23 year old Matan Zohar aka Mat Zo has been able to break into the trance, house, and drum and bass worlds and has just been given the impressive task of doing the latest Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1. This 2 hour mix filled with a whopping 70 tracks breaks all genre boundries pulling the listener in for an unforgettable journey. It seamlesslly goes between progressive and electro house, trance, disco, tasteful dubstep and drum and bass, and more. He sets the mood for the iconic mix with an intriguing quote from Carl Sagan then starts the journey filled with songs that have all connected with Mat on a severe level throughout his years as well as some of absolute best current tracks that “Give hope about the music industry”. This is by far one of the most entertaining mixes I have heard in months, and say that after only getting to give a couple listen throughs. I can not wait to see the release of the unreleased tracks featured “Caller ID”, “Hurricaen”, and “Fall Into Dreams”. Sit back and let Mat takeover. Enjoy!

Today we have a new artist to This Song Is Sick, Maor Levi. He is from Isreal, is 23, and makes some amazing Trance and House and is signed to the world famous trance record label Anjuna Beats, Above & Beyond’s label. Well Maor Levi typically will stick to progressive trance hits, but his official remix of “Miss Atomic Bomb” by The Killers decided to go in the house world. This track was apparently set for release, and then the whole project got scrapped so was left up to him to release it, for free, and we were happy to be able to premiere it for him. It has has smooth trance spin with a bass pounding progressive edge.  Turn this up, enjoy!
