Kendrick Lamar, Future & James Blake Join Forces With Jay Rock On Must Hear, Hard-Hitting Song “Kings Dead”

||

It was announced a few weeks ago that Kendrick Lamar would be curating the soundtrack for the forthcoming Black Panther movie, which came with a brand-new collaboration from Kendrick and Top Dawg Entertainment labelmate SZA. For the second single off the soundtrack, TDE member Jay Rock has teamed up with Kendrick Lamar, Future, and James Blake for "King's Dead," which also serves as the first single to Jay Rock's next album.

Fans of Kendrick's "HUMBLE." and "DNA" will instantly be excited to hear K. Dot team up with producer Mike Will Made-It again over this trap beat, but the song is full of surprises throughout its duration. Jay Rock lays down a highly technical verse that shows off his lyricism before Kendrick and Future come back in for the call-and-response chorus, followed by a silly and unexpected falsetto bridge from Future.

Mike Will and producer Teddy Walton then transition into a beat switch (with James Blake vocals!) for the end of the song that allows Kendrick to go wild over an intense, bass-heavy, distorted instrumental. Kendrick absolutely snaps on this, similar to the back half of "DNA" and fits a crazy amount of bars into the last minute.

The style of this song is completely different than the Kendrick x SZA collaboration, and we cannot wait to hear what else the Black Panther soundtrack has in store for us. The soundtrack drops February 9th, with the movie premiering the following week. Enjoy!
