Between his hard-hitting collaboration with Ekali “Truth”, his bass-laden single “Never Give Up”, or the grime-inspired “Focus” featuring Outlaw, the legendary experimental producer has dropped something for everyone this month. Each new release has come in typical TroyBoi style – a straight SoundCloud upload for all to enjoy.
“X2C” is the latest in this onslaught of TroyBoi bangers, an irresistibly smooth track with an atmospheric feel. Shimmering synths and a plucky melody wistfully ring in the track before an abrupt breakdown introduces us to the main event: a bouncy verse with those signature TroyBoi snares cutting through an emotional string section. As the track progresses its feel diversifies with distorted synth scales echoing in the background and the occasional vocal chop letting out a celebratory “Woo!” This track is, in one word, clean.
