MGMT Return With Must-Hear New Album ‘Little Dark Age’

MGMT Little Dark Age

Acid-washed indie rockers MGMT shared their fourth album, Little Dark Age, this morning. The project comes nearly half a decade after their third, self-titled album, which took listeners on a hallucinogenic, borderline odd journey and received mixed reviews.

With over four years to rest and reflect on that album, MGMT takes things in a refreshing new direction with Little Dark Age. The hallucinogenic synth melodies and out-of-this-world production are still there, no doubt, but the group heavily channels a darker synth-pop style with the ten tracks that comprise the release.

MGMT teased this style throughout the past few months, sharing singles “Little Dark Age,” “When You Die” and “Hand It Over,” displaying both production and vocals with considerably more direction than previous releases. The seven tracks that joined these singles this morning drive that idea home.

The album seamlessly weaves between lighthearted pieces such as the cheeky opener track “She Works Out Too Much,” which features VanWyngarden and Goldwasser arguing with a robotic female voice about social media and gym memberships, and more subdued pieces, like the more laidback “James” and “When You’re Small.” MGMT even brings a level of funk on tracks like “TSLAMP” and the instrumental-heavy “Days That Got Away.”

Altogether, Little Dark Age is more likely to have your head bobbing than to have you pondering on what it all means. It’s danceable albeit weird, introspective while not taking itself too seriously, and it’s something that only MGMT could pull off. Check it out below. Enjoy!

Indie R&B Artist Rhye Shares Stunning Album 'Blood' Putting Insane Falsetto Vocals On Full Display

Rhye blood art

Five years after their incredible debut album, Rhye returns with a must hear new project titled Blood.
There something about unique vocals that hit just right, and Rhye has some of the most unique vocals out there.

The indie R&B album is amazingly relaxing as Mike Milosh’s vocals have hypnotic, lullaby effect almost with the funky, and extra chill production lays the perfect foundation. With Rhye’s previous album Woman, the group was a duo including Milosh on vocals alongside production by Robin Hannibal. Since then, Hannibal has parted ways and Milosh shows he can still make amazing music as a solo artist. The project started out anonymous and I actually thought it was a woman’s vocals I was hearing, but that just shows how insane of a range he has to hit those falsetto notes.

Blood is amazing from start to finish. When Rhye toured for Woman, Milosh quickly realized the low energy songs sounded great live, but he wanted to make something that people could dance to. Flash forward five years and here we are with the follow-up. Milosh was the vocalist, producer and writer for Blood, and this cohesive energy is apparent throughout. The vocals and production combine for a dreamy effect combining lush electronic production with laid back organic instrumentation making for a unique sound we’re going to be coming back to quite a bit. Enjoy!

Keys N Krates Deliver Impressive Debut Album 'Cura' Taking Hip-Hop Direction

Keys N Krates album

Keys N Krates’ debut album is here! The Canadian trio has just shared their 9-track project Cura, bringing on features from artists like Tory Lanez, G.O.O.D. Music signee 070 Shake and more as they explore new sounds.

This project hears KNK taking on a more hip-hop focused sound that we haven’t fully experienced previously. We had the pleasure of premiering “Flute Loop” and have also heard previous singles “My Night” and “Do What U Do,” which heard them channel a J Dilla-inspired sound. The full project is incredibly smooth with each song sounding unique and smooth. Check out the full project below and enjoy!
