Porter Robinson and Madeon have unveiled their free-spirited collaboration, "Shelter". The song is rich in emotionally uplifting chords, high-pitched vocal chops -- brought to you by Madeon himself -- and glittery accents that provide a magical essence.
With respect to the collaboration, Madeon says:
“Both Porter and I started working with people in-person when we started making our respective albums and appreciated how much more collaborative you can get. Our intent was to make music that would reflect our friendship.”
Porter adds the following:
"I see enthusiasm and inspiration as the most important currency you can have when you’re making music. It’s this weird sensation of being drunk on your own confidence and excitement that leads to so many creative breakthroughs. That effect was really exaggerated when we were working together."
Moreover, Porter Robinson and Madeon will be taking their talents on tour for a collaborative live experience. The Shelter Live Tour currently consists of 17 dates with more to be announced. Presale tickets go live on Aug. 15 here.
From the moment we first heard NAO’s angelic voice, she caught our undivided attention. The captivating UK vocalist’s musical journey began with her first single in 2013 and has come full circle with her debut album For All We Know.
For those unfamiliar with the talented artist, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Read our Catch Up Guide on NAO here and get up to speed on the musical journey leading to her biggest release to date.
At 53 minutes, For All We Know doesn’t outstay its welcome. NAO’s full-length debut showcases her unique sound with a polished, heartfelt display. She eagerly opens up with dazzling, sonic reflections on her personal romantic relationships setting the emotional tone across the offering’s 18 tracks.
Studying vocal Jazz at London’s Guildhall School Of Music & Drama, NAO has successfully infused a modern take on her classic schooling. Her silky, soulful voice places seductive tendencies atop coarse, warbling production maintaining an electronic core. The project’s genre-blending approach compliments pop sensibilities with funky, dance-driven baselines and burly, gruff synths combining for a futuristic twist on retro R&B trends.
While the album is worthwhile listening from start to finish, standout tracks include her breakout singles "Bad Blood" and "Fool To Love" in addition to the funk-soaked track "Happy" and "Get To Know Ya", a euphoric Jungle-produced song kicking the album off on a strong note.
NAO’s debut offering is confident and ambitious, yet vulnerable and honest at the same time. She’s positioned herself as one of modern soul’s most promising voices with her eager debut released via her own label, Little Tokyo Records.
One of rap’s most enigmatic artists, Spark Master Tape, has finally returned with his third full-length project Silhouette Of A Sunkken City!
The mysteriously elusive artist raps from the perspective of a comic book villain type of character boasting a life of crime while using entirely pitched down vocals. After amassing a cult-like following in wake of his first two incredible mixtapes, he abruptly went rogue leaving fans anxiously awaiting any news. Now he’s finally returned and delivered some long-awaited new music. For those unfamiliar, check out our Spark Master Tape catch up guide.
Spark Master Tape's ambitious third project Silhouette Of A Sunkken City is his longest to date spanning 22 tracks, and once again delivers his dark aesthetic and distinct sound.
The booming production on Spark Master Tape’s music is equally as important to his sound as his rapping is, and this is very apparent on the new project. His sole producer and right-hand-man Paper Platoon delivers a cohesive sound throughout the album capturing both menacing and soulful moods with each track sounding different from the last.
The 22 track album is filled with mostly short, spastic tracks with a couple interludes and multiple production focused tracks setting the stage for the project’s doomsday-like concept. The trappy hip-hop meets hard hitting, experimental electronic production brings sample-littered instrumentals with many beat switches contrasting dark aesthetic with uplifting samples and instrumentation making for a uniquely interesting listen.
Spark’s swaggy flows are gritty and compelling as he often teases short, frantic raps before going in hard on verses dropping in and out atop the frequent beat switches while rapping from the perspective of an ominous, sex & drug fueled rap persona.
While “Tenkkeys” is the project’s most complete and refined track, SOASC is entirely filled with must-hear songs including standout tracks “WAKKEBOI," "Livin' Lavish,” “Run Em Dry,” “Goin’ Robbin’” and “Swoup In The Whip” being just a handful of our favorites. Although this album bangs from start to finish, it’s not your typical listen… so gear up and get ready to be SWOUP’d.
