Ekali Shares New Sample Pack & Donates Proceeds Back to Vancouver High School Music Programs

With a diverse repertoire of releases such as the wonderfully sinister “Blame” with ZHU or the touching “Past Life” with Opia, fluid mixing skills displayed on his infectious “Awakening” mix series and much more, Ekali consistently stakes his claim as one of the fastest rising producers in the game right now. Today, however, the Canadian artist is proving his influence in a different way through giving back.

Yesterday Ekali announced the release of his “Ekali Kit Vol. III,” a sample pack for producers to use that features both remixes and original samples from songs like “Blame,” “Past Life” and “Babylon,” according to the pack’s description online. Instead of keep the profits this time around, Ekali will be donating all of the proceeds to high school music programs in his hometown of Vancouver, BC. Amid budget cuts and more, a problem that both the U.S. and Canada face in this day and age, many schools can’t afford to provide their students with basic instruments to play with. Ekali plans to purchase instruments for these students, with a plan to inform his fans how the money will be used in the works.

The pack’s starting price is $10, with the option available to donate even more. In just one day Ekali has raised a staggering $4,000, with artists like Dirty Audio even donating some of their cash to the cause. Find the pack below and enjoy!

DJ Snake Launches Brand New Record Label “Premiere Classe”

dj snake record label premiere classe

Electronic music is on its way to being completely dominated by artist run labels. Earlier today, Parisian DJ and producer DJ Snake officially announced via social media that he is launching his own record label called Premiere Classe (translated to “First Class” in English).

Snake goes on to describe his motivation and reasoning for starting this new label, as well as his goals for it:

“This has always been a dream of mine. I wanted to first build a platform and then use it to shine a light on music/people that I believe in. This record label is for people across all corners of the world, to showcase all genres of music. I grew up influenced by different cultures, sounds, feelings, emotions and I want “Premiere Classe’’ to be a representation of that. I was given a chance some time ago and it changed my life forever, I want to be able to give the same chance to the next generation of artists.”

It could be fair to speculate that CONFESSION's success has helped Snake with his decision to launch this label he's been wanting to for years. CONFESSION is another artist-run label that is headed by one of his closest friends, Tchami. Unlike Tchami’s imprint, however, Snake’s label will not be focused on any single genre.

It doesn’t look like we’ll have to wait long for the first track to debut, either. According to DJ Snake, the first release will be a record by 4B and Teez titled “Whistle”, a banger that Snake has been using as a weapon in his recent sets. The track is due out tomorrow, so stay tuned.

Getter Confirms He’s Moving On From EDM & Announces Next Album Titled ‘VISCERAL’

Getter quitting EDM

It’s no secret that there's been a lot of controversy surrounding Getter lately. As an artist that originally made a name for himself producing bass music, fans have always been noticeably divided over not only his transitions between riddim and dubstep, but also his evolution throughout trap, future bass, hip-hop/rap and even metal. As Getter announced over a year ago that he would be leaving EDM as soon as his album was ready, today we’ve received some bittersweet news: Getter’s forthcoming album will be titled VISCERAL and yes, he’s ready to leave EDM.

Having recently teamed up with Ghostemane on a collaborative Dahlia I EP, Getter has been switching things up monumentally with his recent few singles “Solo” “Big Mouth” and “Colorblind” - two of which (Solo & Colorblind) Getter has confirmed will be on his forthcoming album. But as his sound has been changing, so has his attitude surrounding EDM.

“I wouldn’t say I’m quitting EDM. I’m just kind of graduating. Like you’d never hear my EDM stuff in a movie or a commercial, unless it was a party scene or a race car driving scene. I’m trying to make music that could be in space movies, or a scene where Brad Pitt is making out with Angelina in the fucking rain, you know? Just some pretty shit.” - Getter via Dancing Astronaut

Although it’s hard to deal with the polarity of Getter’s album being the end of his EDM days, with endeavors like Terror Reid, Shred Collective and more, we know that we still have a lot to look forward to from Getter in the future. Enjoy!
