Gary Richards (Destructo) Confirms Plans Of New Cruise Festival Called "Friend Ship"

Destructo gary richards friend ship festival

AHA! Gary Richards is indeed launching his own cruise festival and just announced it will be called “Friend Ship.” Just a few days ago we covered the news that Gary Richards has been cryptically hinting towards something that seemed to be his own festival. Just last night he was performing as Destructo in Brooklyn and made the announcement to fans that he is currently planning his festival cruise “Friend Ship.”

When Richards split ways with HARD events we knew this wouldn’t be the end of his work as a highly respected promoter so his announcement as President of LiveStyle North America (previously known as SFX Entertainment) wasn’t a surprise. He’s been hinting at something coming for a couple weeks now, causing us to speculate that he was going to launch his own boat party shortly and we couldn't be more excited for him. This news is incredibly exciting and we can’t wait to hear more details. Stay tuned for more info and enjoy!

It’s looking like Childish Gambino is here to stay! After making comments suggesting he’s retiring the Childish Gambino moniker, Donald Glover’s musical project has now signed a deal with RCA records to release new music with.

Update: Variety had the exclusive news for this and originally reported new music is coming this year, but that mention has since been removed from their article. Complex has reported a source has confirmed "Glover's 2018 schedule is still being locked down, and with other projects currently in play, new music may not come until 2019 at the earliest."

“Donald is undoubtedly one of the most talented, multi-faceted, young entertainers of this era. We are excited to join forces with him and Wolf + Rothstein to usher in the next phase of Childish Gambino’s musical career.” - RCA Chairman / CEO Peter Edge

The new partnership also includes Glover’s Wolf + Rothstein, which is his agency. Glover went on recording saying the change was a “necessary change of pace.” Variety is reporting that we can expect new music from Childish Gambino this year, but let’s not get our hopes up quite yet as anything could happen. Gambino’s last album Awaken, My Love is up for Album Of The Year at the Grammys along with several other awards, including “Redbone” as Record of the Year and Best R&B song.
