Big Gigantic’s Dominic Lalli Introduces, 'Dominic Lalli’s Bluebird Quintet’ Jazz Debut

It's always exciting when we find out artists we love are working on a musical side project. Often artists may feel pigeonholed after amassing a large fanbase, and side projects are a perfect way to test out a new sound, which usually is something they are passionate about. In this case, instead of testing out a new sound, one of our favorites is returning to his roots. Today we're stoked to bring you news that Dominic Lalli from Big Gigantic will be joined by Adam Deitch, Borahm LeeGabe Mervine, and Hunter Roberts in forming a brand new jazz quintet called Dominic Lalli's Bluebird Quintet.

This new project won't affect Big Gigantic as they're gearing up for another big year in 2019 with new music and touring. We can't wait to hear the new tunes and see how they improve on the INSANE 3D show. There is no stopping Big Gigantic.

This move by Dominic is inspired by his desire to return to his roots as a jazz musician. Most know Dominic for his work with Big G, but might not be aware of his history as a classically trained musician who received his Masters degree in music at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music.

"Before I started Big Gigantic (in the same year), I recorded a jazz album of some original songs as well as a few jazz standards which are still left to be released. As Big G took off, my interest in writing songs and writing electronic music grew more and more and I’ve been happily diving in head first to that world ever since." - Dominic Lalli

This quintet brings together a handful of musicians that we already admire, and we can't wait to see what comes of it. If you aren't familiar, both Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee make up Break Science, and both perform in the Pretty Lights live band, while Adam Deitch is also the drummer of Lettuce.

Dominic Lalli's Bluebird Quintet has already announced their first show, too. They will be making their performance debut on Dec. 11 at Ophelia's Electric Soapbox, a smaller, intimate venue here in Denver that will be the perfect setting for their first show.

big gigantic fall tour mix

Big Gigantic are gearing up for their highly anticipated fall tour and have a special treat for us today. To celebrate hitting the road through the end of the year, Big Gigantic have shared an hour-long mix we’re glad to be premiering. We’re no stranger to these incredible mixes from Big G as they’ve blessed us with multiple volumes of Winter Chill mixes, and we couldn’t be more excited to get one a bit earlier this year.

For those of you who missed it, Big G’s new 3D show absolutely blew our minds. We didn't fully know what to expect with the brand new 3D production, but it’s safe to say any expectations were exceeded. It’s one of those things you have to see in person to fully experience it and luckily for those of you who missed it, they have a couple more 3D shows this year on Dec. 14 & 15 in San Diego & Los Angeles.

The mix includes various unreleased IDs from Big Gigantic we already can't get enough of. On top of that the full tracklist is expertly transitioned with some of our favorite songs from this year by artists like Anderson .Paak, Disclosure, Snakehips, Mac Miller and more. Grab your tickets for their upcoming tour and be sure to check out the 3D shows if you get the chance as it will be well worth it. See tour  dates and the full tracklist below. Grab your tickets for any show on the tour here. Enjoy!
