San Holo Opens A New Chapter In His Sound With Lush, Passionate New Debut LP ‘album1’

san holo album 1

San Holo has has come quite a long way over the past four years. Having emerged onto the scene in 2014 via his debut Cosmos EP quickly followed by an explosive remix of Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode”, the Dutch producer’s melodic trap sound immediately caught our ears and he’s been impressing us ever since. 2018 may very well be San’s best year to date though, as the bitbird boss has finally shared his highly-anticipated debut LP, album1.

“Four years ago when the melodic bass music sound was on the come up, I felt so excited. I really felt like I was doing something unique, or at least part of something bigger that was fresh and new. This feeling of doing something new and innovative is very important to me, and I kinda lost that at some point. I realized I had to reinvent my sound in order to get really excited again musically. With that in mind, I wrote album1.” - San Holo

It seems everything San has released in recent history has inevitably lead to this new direction in his sound. From emotional singles like “Light” & “I Still See Your Face” to incredible collabs with James Vincent McMorrow & Taska Black we can hear inklings of this distinctive new production style slowly bleed into one another, ultimately culminating in this beautiful new offering that is album1. As someone who studied guitar and even produced lo-fi rock under a different alias for some time, it was only a matter of time before San began to incorporate his string skills into his music and ultimately into his live performances.

“If you listen to album1 you'll probably recognize some familiar sounds, things I've kept from my past work, but for the most part album1 is new and different. I want this album to be a new kind of story, from start to finish. I want you to be able to listen to this album for yourself and create your own stories, memories and experiences linked to the music.” - San Holo

Although included on the new project are previously released singles “worthy”, “lift me from the ground”, “brighter days” “forever free”, “surface” and “voices in my head”, from soft, twinkling synth melodies, crisp warbling guitar and lush orchestral swells to wonky vocal chops and heavy 808’s, album1 is at the same time both familiar yet a completely fresh, new sound from the Dutch producer. Packed with features from  frequent collaborators James Vincent McMorrow, Yvette Young, The Nicholas and many more, San Holo has gone far beyond our expectations with his new debut LP. San Holo Reunites With The Nicholas On Vibrant New Album Single “voices in my head”

San Holo has been throwing us for a loop the past few weeks with his incredible new releases. Having dropped five new singles in just over a month, today he’s shared yet another track off his forthcoming debut album, this time teaming up with frequent collaborator The Nicholas on “voices in my head”.

“The first original song I ever released as san holo 4 years ago (hiding) was with The Nicholas, and I still love working with him to this day. Besides the fact that he’s an incredible musician & singer, he’s also a great great friend.” - San Holo

With the recent release of “forever free” and “surface”, we’ve been noticing a change, rather, an evolution happening in San’s distinctive sound. From soft, light-hearted guitar melodies to vibrant orchestral soundscapes, it seems San has put a great deal of time and effort into his forthcoming project, and we can’t wait to hear it. For now, check out “voices in my head” below and enjoy!

San Holo Drops Bright Emotional New Track “surface” ft. Caspian Ahead Of Debut Album

san holo

With San Holo’s debut album due at the end of this week, we definitely weren’t expecting the Dutch producer to drop two new songs so close together - as only a few days after dropping “forever free” with Duskus, today San has already shared the next single off the forthcoming project - “surface” ft. Caspian.

If you listen closely, you'll notice that the end of "forever free" sync's up perfectly with the start of this latest offering. And similar to “forever free” at just over six minutes, the length, structure and production on "surface" are all very noticeably different than San’s past releases. Featuring vibrant, warbling guitar melodies, slow-rolling synths, skittering percussion and additional production from Caspian, throughout powerful crescendos to slow, minimalistic breaks, we’re hearing a whole new San Holo shine through in these most recent releases. With San to release another new track sometime this week, we’re expecting something incredibly special from his new project, album 1 set to drop this Friday (Sept. 21) . For now, check out “surface” below and enjoy!
