Burning Man Looks To Expand Attendance To 100,000

Burning man expanding

As far as the U.S. festival circuit is concerned, there’s nothing quite like the temporarily erected city that is Burning Man. The yearly gathering is by no means your typical festival and is a one-of-a-kind experience centered around community music and art. “Burners” gather for a week-long celebration in which they build a multitude of creations including massive, towering wooden sculptures that are burned in ceremony to conclude the gathering.

With the unique experience and world class music, it’s no wonder the fest has to utilize a lottery system for ticket sales. But the fest may need to make a major change in their organization as a momentous expansion may be on the horizon.

The festival, which takes place 100 mile north of Reno in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, is currently up for its 10-year renewal by the Nevada Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

With the renewal comes a proposal from Burning Man organizers - to raise their attendance cap to 100,000 and add 500+ acres of extra land to be closed off during the week-long yearly event. Currently capped at 68,000 participants, when considering all who actually attend the event (including volunteers, vendors and government officials), the fest attracts closer to 80,000 people yearly.

Having only grown bigger and better ever since moving to the Nevada in 1990, with ticket prices up to $1,000, Burning Man continues to sell out year after year. While this expansion, for the fest, would mean a substantial increase of art pieces, themed art camps, and art cars/modified vehicles, we’re hoping it will also mean easier ticket access for their steadily growing global audience as one of the biggest festivals.

Watch Skrillex’s Epic 2017 Burning Man Set In Full

Skrillex Burning Man

It’s been a few weeks since Burning Man’s 2017 run came to a close, but the onslaught of sets uploaded to SoundCloud, YouTube and more is still going strong. We’ve heard sets from both Diplo and Tycho recently, and today we’re excited to share yet another: a fan-uploaded video of Skrillex’s Camp Questionmark set in its entirety.

The video aspect of this set adds many new dimensions to simply hearing a mix via SoundCloud. Beyond the weird and wonderful visuals provided by Infinight from Melt Creative, the energy of the crowd is tangible throughout. Skrillex kept things as energetic as ever with this one, jam-packing his performance with tracks of his own, like “Chicken Soup” with Habstrakt and “Purple Lamborghini” with Rick Ross, as well as a handful of unreleased tracks with JOYRYDE and Snails. Plenty of other artists’ tracks make appearances as well, such as JOYRYDE’s “Damn,” Moody Good’s heavy take on Noisia’s “Get Deaded,” Chance The Rapper’s “No Problem” and many more. Check out the full set below. Enjoy!

Diplo Shares Heavy Hourlong Set From Burning Man 2017

diplo burning man 2017

The week following Burning Man is always full of new mixes, with artists consistently uploading their sets from the festival to SoundCloud and other streaming services each year. This weekend chillwave artist Tycho shared his soothing sunrise set from the gathering and, more recently, Diplo has gifted us with a performance from the opposite side of the spectrum: his intense, bass-heavy set from Burning Man’s fifth day at Camp Questionmark.

Diplo is a master at mixing hip-hop, rap and other genres with lively production, a dynamic signature that always brings something fresh to Burning Man. 2017 was no different, with the producer packing this hourlong set to the brim with powerful music. The hip-hop influence is notable with classic releases from artists like A$AP Ferg, Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean and Kendrick Lamar mixed in, but Diplo goes deep as well, tying in tracks like Rick Ross and Skrillex’s “Purple Lamborghini,” What So Not’s heavy “Innerbloom” remix, various releases from the Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack U album/EP and much more. Find the full set below – enjoy!
