Nick Murphy (Chet Faker) Shares Experimental New Single "Medication"

Nick Murphy Chet Faker

Nick Murphy, formerly known as Chet Faker, is undoubtedly one of our favorite artists. Since dropping the Chet Faker name and going by his real name, Murphy has released an EP and has now followed it up with a new track “Medication.”

Murphy’s first project under his name, Missing Link, changed things up as he collaborated with Kaytranada and brought more of an abrasive, rock-influenced sound than what we were used to hearing from the Chet Faker project. This new single “Medication” comes via Downtown / Interscope and has an experimental instrumental that changes throughout from abrasive to calm and back while his smooth vocals shine. We’re hoping Murphy has more for us soon but for now, enjoy!

Nick Murphy (FKA Chet Faker) Shares New 'Missing Link' EP Ft. KAYTRANADA

Nick Murphy Kaytranada

Nick Murphy, formerly known as Chet Faker, has just dropped his first EP since switching to his birth name. This 5-track project titled Missing Link includes a solid collaboration with Kaytranada on "Your Time" as we hear a new direction from Murphy.

We previously heard his loose singles “Fear Less” and “Stop Me” as Murphy continues to change things up here. While the sound we came to love from Chet Faker was a smooth blend of indie electronic and R&B, this new project brings a different sound. The Rock influence is strong throughout the EP with a more abrasive, guitar-focused sound while incorporating experimental electronic production. Some of the tracks are frantic while others have a more dance-based tempo as he even includes an entirely instrumental track “Bye”. This is certainly a different sound from Chet Faker and we’re excited to see how the project grows. Enjoy!

Bonobo And Nick Murphy (Chet Faker) Team Up On Refreshing Single “No Reason”

Bonobo New Press

With Bonobo’s highly anticipated upcoming album Migration less than a week away, he’s shared a new single "No Reason" featuring Nick Murphy, who’s formerly known as Chet Faker.

The LP is shaping up to be some of his best work to date and includes other incredible singles "Break Apart" featuring Rhye and "Kerala". With Nick Murphy switching to go by his birth name, he’s taken a more indie and less pop route with his vocals while maintaining the same level of soulfulness.

This chill house tune keeps a rolling, dance-driven bassline as Bonobo builds layers of atmospheric instrumentation as the perfect match with Murphy's vocals. This collab came after the two longtime friends were discussing a shared love for disco and began going through demos together. Murphy was actually recently a guest on Bonobo's Outlier Radio 003 mix as well. They uploaded a full 7.5 minute version as well as a shortened 4 minute edit. Stream both below and stay tuned for Migration on Jan. 13 and enjoy!
