PREMIERE | DEVAULT Impresses With Dark Electronic Remix Of Mikky Ekko's Indie Original "What's It Like Now"

mikky ekko

There’s nothing quite like a dance remix of a soulful indie track. Rising producer DEVAULT has taken a spin on Mikky Ekko’s passionate, bouncing indie single “What’s It Like Now” and turned it into a dark electronic offering. Mikky gave DEVAULT a lot to work with, the original is packed with addicting vocal hooks and driving guitar riffs that easily translate to a dance banger. DEVAULT’s production skill is impressive and we’ve had him on the site before for his sensual original track “Don’t You Want To” ft. Ayelle out last year on Zeds Dead’s record label Deadbeats. The young producer has been busy since then – he’s released two singles this year already.

“What’s It Like Now” is a dark, emotional remix in line with DEVAULT’s signature style. Mikky’s vocals are filtered over ominous background synths that hint at the swinging synth drop to come. The breakdown before the drop incorporates haunting, high-pitched vocals from Mikky that echo into an atmospheric instrumental punctuated by crisp snares. It all comes together in a synth heavy, purposefully off-beat drop that’ll be sure to hook any listener. Enjoy!

[PREMIERE] Rising Producer Devault Makes TSIS Debut With Dark Single “Don’t You Want To” Via Zeds Dead’s Label

It’s been roughly a year and a half since Canadian duo Zeds Dead announced the creation of their record label, Deadbeats. The young imprint has been on a tear ever since, signing and premiering artists with impressive sounds across genres. One of the most recent to join the label is Devault, a 21-year-old producer who’s been forging a fresh, future-style signature and drawing increased attention over the past year. Today we’re excited to be premiering the artist’s debut track with Deadbeats, “Don’t You Want To.”

Although he hasn’t been in the game long, Devault shows talent and production skills beyond his years with this release. “Don’t You Want To” is both sensual and sinister, with the two feels of the track blending throughout. He takes his time building the various dark elements of the track that pair well with haunting vocals throughout the intro. This nice build leads into a surprisingly high-energy drop, with a prominent synth pattern and chopped up vocals taking center stage. Altogether, “Don’t You Want To” is the perfect fit for Deadbeats, and we’re looking forward to seeing how Devault grows from here. Check it out below and enjoy!
