FKJ Drops Warm, Piano-Heavy Instrumental Track "TUI" In Surprise Release

The extremely talented multi-instrumentalist, singer and producer FKJ is an artist whose versatility always keeps us on our toes. You never know when he might drop a live jam session like his recent captivating performance of an unreleased track in Red Bull Studios LA, or his mesmerizing performance at the Paris Museum of Modern Art. His wide-ranging talents were focused last year into his stunning debut album French Kiwi Juice, which won a #2 spot on the TSIS Top 20 Electronic Albums of 2017 list.

FKJ has now shared a brand-new track “TUI”. The instrumental offering begins with a fast-paced piano melody flitting over a warm, soft bass accentuated with the organic sound of chirping birds. This peaceful yet energizing mix of instruments occasionally breaks off for a moment to be replaced by a rolling bird call that seems to be acknowledging its listener. FKJ’s masterful ability to build a track from its foundation is on full display here, as piano chords, snare drums, and slowly building synths all come together into a beautiful crescendo at the end of the track. Just as the last chords fade away, the bird call appears one more time to signal the track’s end. Enjoy!

FKJ Lucky Star

If you ever see a video of FKJ doing a live studio session, press play immediately. We’ve been shown time and time again that the versatile producer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist can rock a live performance like no other. For example, take his mesmerizing live performance at the Paris Modern Art Museum that, when combined with his surroundings, took his art to the next level. Or when he hopped into the studio with Masego and the resulting impromptu jam session produced “Tadow”, a track that racked up millions of plays even before the two artists decided to give it an official release. All of this raw talent culminated in FKJ’s debut album French Kiwi Juice, which snagged an impressive #2 spot on our Top 20 Electronic Albums of 2017 list.

Now FKJ finds himself back in Red Bull Studios, but this time he’s in LA with the equally funky artist Pomo for an amazing new track "Lucky Star". FKJ looks at home surrounded by keyboards, microphones and midi controllers that allow him to lay down sweet piano riffs and electronically modulate his voice in a way that will make any Daft Punk fan do a double-take. Meanwhile, Pomo is rocking out on his own keys, laying down addicting basslines and soothing chord sequences that form the structure of the track. The two are accompanied by a talented guitarist whose driving riffs act like a sonic “cherry on top”. The result is a fantastically funky jam that we can only hope gets an official release ASAP. Enjoy!

FKJ Shares Full Mesmerizing Live Performance At Paris Modern Art Museum

FKJ Modern art Paris

In our modern world of music, there is so much talent out there that it’s nearly impossible to appreciate it all. Of all of those producers and artists that we’ve come to love, very few possess talent as pure and raw as FKJ. His work truly is art. So much so, in fact, that he was recently invited to put on a small show at the Paris Museum of Modern Art. The full video of the performance was posted by FKJ himself, and it will simply blow you away.

For those of you unfamiliar, we actually just highlighted his album this year as the #2 spot on our list of best electronic albums of 2017. What makes FKJ special may be his mastery of a number of various instruments that surround him: an electric keyboard, a saxophone, a lead guitar, a bass guitar, a piano, his voice. What really impresses us is the way he combines all of them into one performance with looping effects and drum machines, turning himself into a one-of-a-kind, one man band. If you were to listen to his most recent album, French Kiwi Juice, without knowing anything about FKJ, chances are you wouldn’t believe it was all done by one person, live. Once again, FKJ speaks to the soul. Enjoy!
