Amy Winehouse, an influence for many with a soulful, jazz-influenced style and iconic voice, would have turned 34 today. Her tragic death in July 2011 rocked the music community, with many artists coming together since then to honor the singer-songwriter. Today Dua Lipa and Gallant have done just that with their cover of Winehouse’s “Tears Dry On Their Own” in episode six of Gallant’s “In The Room” sessions, the artist’s ongoing video series that has seen him collaborate with Sufjan Stevens, Seal, Jack Garratt and John Legend.
Both of these rising musicians have always impressed us with their own expressive styles – each has a tender touch to their voice that strikes a chord with any listener. Collaborating only serves to highlight their passionate signatures even more, with their soothing tones playing perfectly off of one another throughout the duet. Dua Lipa’s components bring a young Amy Winehouse to mind, with Gallant only reinforcing and complimenting those similarities. Check out the cover below and enjoy!
Gallant is back with a new version of his successful album track “Bourbon” packaged with visual support from an artistic music video. The new version features rapper SABA and producer Lophiile who put an incredible twist on an already great original. Chicago-based artist SABA has a refreshing take on hip-hop and was featured on Chance The Rapper’s single “Angels”. Lophiile is a rising producer who was recently recruited by Zedd for an incredible official remix of “Stay”. The three have joined forces to create a progressive interpretation of “Bourbon” that blends each artist’s unique sound flawlessly.
Courtesy of Lophiile, this version of “Bourbon” incorporates more electronic influence than the original. Gallant’s vocal performance remains the same exhibiting his versatility and SABA’s verse compliments the two perfectly. While maintaining the integrity of the original, this new version of “Bourbon” adds a new dynamic that we are loving. Check out the music video below and as always, Enjoy!
R&B sensation Gallant found his way to fame very swiftly as his hit single “Weight in Gold” gained amazing support from across the internet with backing from the legend Elton John. Gallant has a video series titled “In The Room” in which he invites artists such as Sufjan Stevens and Seal to join him in the studio to create pure magic. His latest episode features the incredibly talented John Legend who performs alongside Gallant for their collaborative rendition of Legend’s original “Overload”, which originally features Miguel.
This is not the first time that Gallant and John Legend have been seen working together. Legend asked Gallant to join him throughout his Darkness and Light Tour which is currently taking place throughout the States and they even uploaded a video of the two doing this song together once before. The full list of tour dates can be seen below.
Gallant's impressive video series finds him alongside other talented artists performing alongside each other for one video take. We're looking forward to seeing what else this video series brings. Enjoy!
