Jamie xx Delivers New Remix Of The xx's "On Hold"

Jaime xx On hold remix

The xx's sparse, intimate music provides the perfect framework for artists to remix them, and there have been many great ones from their three albums. The latest remix comes from the band's own producer Jamie xx, putting a new spin on their first single from 2017's I See You.

Jamie xx's remix of "On Hold" immediately sounds unrecognizable from the original, replacing the opening verse with a slow-building house beat. The Hall & Oates-sampled chorus is now broken up and weaved into the beat, alongside a kick & snare that keep the tempo throughout the song. Around two minutes in, the song brings loud, arpeggiated synths to the forefront and continues to build on that for the duration of the six-minute track.

Jamie xx's restrained, minimalist work with The xx is incredibly impressive, but his talent really shines on his solo work where he is not bound by any restrictions. Enjoy!

The xx I see you

The xx are back with the highly anticipated release of their third studio album, I See You. This latest release is the follow-up to their incredible Coexist LP in 2012.

After years of staying quiet, the UK trio returned in a big way with their amazing lead single "Hold On" which brought a much bigger presence from Jaime xx than we’d previously heard from the group. They followed that up with "Say Something Loving" which had a more familiar xx sound with gentle instrumentation and duet-styled vocal performances from Rome and Oliver.

Now the project is available in full and builds on the sound we last heard from The xx, delivering a wider range of styles than their previous releases. Following Coexist, Jamie xx went out on his own to share an incredible solo album called In Colour where he showcased his uncanny sampling and production abilities. Now they’ve incorporated more of Jaime’s dance-driven tendencies into some of the tracks on I See You.

While a few of the tracks carry a higher level of energy, others deliver the gentle, minimal instrumentation that’s made up their signature sound we all know. Stream I See You in full below and enjoy!
