The mega collaboration between Pegboard Nerds, NGHTMRE and Krewella is finally here. Amid robust touring and release schedules, the three acts were able to join forces in the studio to create "Superstar," which is out now on Monstercat.
The grungy bass record boasts an aggressive lead that is closely bound by an elastic vocal sample and firm snare hits. "Superstar" is primed for any high-powered environment and will certainly bring out the passionate head-bangers.
With respect to the collaborative process, Alex and Michael of Pegboard Nerds said they had "a few sessions together, as well as some across-the-globe communication to get the track done." The duo, who recently wrapped their Nerds By Nature tour, added, "We did one session with NGHTMRE getting an idea going and then we all came together for one session in L.A. where the girls wrote their lyrics to the track in it’s state at the time."
"I definitely learned a lot of technical skills from this collaboration," says Tyler (NGHTMRE). "The Pegboards Nerds guys introduced me to some really cool plug-ins for manipulating vocals and synths that I use all the time now!" Fans of the bass producer may hear some of the newly acquired knowledge in his new production, "Need You
," with Dillon Francis.
While the track's title is befitting to the artists involved, it wasn't necessarily planned that way. "We actually wrote three different hook ideas," says Krewella, "They ended up running with "Superstar."" The message behind the lyrics certainly spoke true to Yasmine and Jahan.
"I was thinking about someone so dear to me who was at a low point in their life when I wrote it. In our society we often let achievements, success, fame, or status shape our self worth and sense of importance on this earth. Writing the song felt like I was sending a message to that person as a reminder that none of the superficial shit determines their value to me."
