Watch Lorde Team Up With VEVO To Reimagine Songs From ‘Melodrama’

Lorde Melodrama acoustic

It’s been roughly two months since Lorde dropped her 11-track sophomore album, Melodrama. The offering certainly had big shoes to fill after her debut project, Pure Heroine, made waves nearly half a decade ago in 2013. Despite speculation that Lorde’s latest couldn’t up to her stunning first project, Melodrama has been revered by fans and critics alike, presenting a more cultivated sound dripping with intricate production and passionate vocals.

Linking up with VEVO as well as various instrumentalists and backup singers, Lorde recently performed a handful of Melodrama tracks in a minimalist, captivating setting. Utilizing subtle instrumentals and production, these hypnotizing, unvarnished versions of the songs allow the power of Lorde’s voice to truly shine. The songs performed include "Hard Feelings/Loveless," "Homemade Dynamite," "The Louvre," "Sober," "Supercut," and "Writer in the Dark," and each brings slightly different elements to the table to maintain a compelling overall vibe. Check out the six performances (and some behind-the-scenes) below and enjoy!

Snapchat’s New Feature “Crowd Surf” Combines Video To Create Seamless Live Music Experience

Snapchat Crowd Surf

These days it’s no secret that you’re going to see people Snapchatting at concerts, with big festivals like Ultra or EDC drawing thousands of snaps each day to “Our Stories” that people can access from around the world. Usually this footage is choppy and sporadic, showing small clips from each set with no coherent flow.

In its newest feature, Snapchat is attempting to create a more holistic live viewing experience for its users. Appropriately dubbed “Crowd Surf,” this revolutionary new technology uses Snapchat users’ location, timestamps and more to create a seamless viewing experience via snapchats submitted to “Our Story.” The feature joins videos together throughout the entire set, creating consistent audio and various viewpoints. This means viewers can watch entire songs at various vantage points throughout the show, from backstage to the back of the crowd, without the choppiness that “Our Stories” and friends’ stories in general have had in the past. Of course, this means that a healthy amount of users will have to be submitting videos to “Our Story,” as well.

Snapchat put this potentially revolutionary technology to work this weekend at Outside Lands during Lorde’s performance. You can find this viewing experience right now in the “Our Stories” section of Snapchat (below your friends’ stories and the featured section) or on the map feature. The feature has a small button in the corner that allows you to switch between various perspectives with (mostly) seamless audio quality.

Although this first run isn’t flawless, “Crowd Surf” could change where and how we stream live music immensely. Find out more about the new feature in the video below. Enjoy!

Lorde Drops Sophomore Album 'Melodrama' With Production By Flume

Lorde Flume

After a long break in between albums, Lorde has shared her sophomore LP Melodrama. The 11-track album is first since her debut in 2013.

The best surprise about the project has a Flume production credit on the track “The Louvre”. The collaborative effort wasn’t known until the project dropped and Flume congratulated Lorde and revealed his involvement on the track. Flume remixed Lorde’s “Tennis Court” years back so the two working together doesn’t come as a shocker, but is a pleasant surprise. The song uses a minimal instrumental as we can hear Flume’s influence with a more experimental portions of glitchy sound design. Lorde picks up where she left off years ago with a matured sound and direction on her latest. Stream below and enjoy!
