Diplo & Mark Ronson Unveil Highly Anticipated “Silk City” Project With New Single “Only Can Get Better”

silk city

When we first heard that Diplo and Mark Ronson were coming together to start a side project called Silk City, we had no idea what to think. What kind of sound would come from two of the biggest producers in music? Today we found out via their brand new track “Only Can Get Better,” and it’s sounding awesome.

Diplo and Mark Ronson might be on different sides of the music spectrum, but the two have seemed to find a common ground. “We’re trying to do something with disco music,” Diplo had mentioned in an article with GQ. Thinking about Diplo making disco music made us chuckle a bit, but we’re not laughing anymore. The two super-producers executed their idea flawlessly, and we aren’t ashamed to say that we’re seriously digging their new sound.

Based on solely this first single, we can say that we are officially stoked to hear what the rest of their album is going to sound like. If you’re in the mood for some upbeat, housey, disco vibes, then we highly recommend giving “Only Can Get Better” a listen. Enjoy!

SZA Has Three Songs Completed As Super Trio Alongside Mark Ronson & Tame Impala's Kevin Parker

SZA Tame Impala Mark Ronson

Last October, SZA revealed she is working on an album as a super trio alongside Mark Ronson (producer behind "Uptown Funk") and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker. Now in an interview with the NY Times,  the TDE songstress has shared the exciting news that the new trio has completed recording three new songs at this point.

Her nominations have inspired her to rededicate herself to making more ambitious music, including a planned collaboration with the producer Mark Ronson (“Uptown Funk”) and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, with whom she said she had recorded three songs. - Reggie Ogwu (NY Times)

There’s little information about what the three super talented artists have planned, but we really can’t wait to hear what they’ve been up to. Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker has been busy with unexpected collaborations as he’s also linked up with ZHU on an incredible new original track he’s been teasing. Mark Ronson also just recently shared the exciting news that he’s launching a new collaborative project alongside Diplo called Silk City that will feature disco and funk music. Stay tuned for more and enjoy!

Diplo Unveils New Super Duo 'Silk City' With “Uptown Funk” Producer Mark Ronson

Diplo Mark Ronson Silk City

It’s a been a big 24 hours for US Festival-goers. After much patience and anticipation, two of the US’s biggest music festivals, Coachella and Governors Ball, announced their complete lineups for their festivals in the Spring. Potential festival-goers may have spotted something special that they’ve never seen before when looking over the Governors Ball lineup: Silk City (Diplo + Mark Ronson).

We all know Diplo of course, but if the name Mark Ronson looks unfamiliar to you, he’s most famous for producing the massive hit “Uptown Funk”, which featured Bruno Mars on vocals. Ronson has been a prolific pop-music producer for quite some time now. In fact, the same album that featured “Uptown Funk” also featured huge vocalists like Stevie Wonder and Miike Snow’s Andrew Wyatt among others.

Diplo noted in an interview with GQ magazine back in August that he and Mark Ronson were actually close friends. He went on to say that he and Mark were planning on doing a collab album similar to the way he did Jack U with Skrillex. “Me and Mark are trying to do something with disco music,” he says.

It seems as though this disco project is about to see the light of day once June eventually comes around for Governors Ball. Diplo has performed as himself, a part of Major Lazer, and a part of Jack U, but all of these have been performances as a DJ. With his name attached to Mark Ronson, we can only speculate what kind of act it will turn out to be. We would certainly be surprised, however, if they go up there for a simple b2b DJ set.
