The rollout of OddKidOut’s Solstice EP finally comes to completion today, with the official release of the project via Skrillex’s OWSLA record label. We’ve been covering the presentation of this unique EP over the past couple months, which focuses on sampling different tracks exclusively from the OWSLA catalog and are excited to premiere the full project. So far the first three singles, “6 Years,” “The Getaway,” and “Napa Street” have all been right on the money, and now we get to hear Solstice in it’s full and final form.

The brand new number being released today to conclude the EP is “MIND/$,” which samples the Yogi track Money On My Mind (feat. Juicy J and Alexander Lewis)”. Unlike the other tracks, which lean towards a much more chill and euphoric sound, “MIND/$” is a straight slapper with bending 808s that will twist your face up every which way.

OddKidOut has seemed to really outdo himself on this entire EP. It’s clear that Skrillex saw something within this young Philly-based producer, and this release has certainly earned him some credentials in the production world. We definitely expect to see some more of OddKidOut soon.

PREMIERE | Rising OWSLA Artist OddKidOut Drops Charming New Track “The Getaway” Off EP

OddKidOut is back with the second track from the rollout of his unique, new Solstice EP. Last week, it was announced that the fresh OWSLA producer would be taking on the special project, which focuses on the sampling of different OWSLA tracks from their catalog.

We fell in love with the first track, “6 Years,” upon first listen. The tune sampled the ever-so-talented brother and sister duo, Tennyson, and today, OddKidOut delivers track two from Solstice, which also samples Tennyson (“Cry Bird”), as well as Skrillex and Team EZY’s “Pretty Bye Bye.” The new track is titled “The Getaway,” and it’s just as impressive as the first.

The most identifiable use of the sampling is how OKO utilizes the intro to “Pretty Bye Bye,” while creating an entirely new, charming melody that is unique to “The Getaway.” The vocal cut is utilized throughout the whole track, and it works perfectly.

Stay tuned for the next couple weeks, when OddKidOut and OWSLA reveal the third part of the four-track EP, Solstice due July 11. Listen below and enjoy!

Watch Tennyson’s Incredible Performance Of “Uh Oh!” With Live Band & String Quartet

We’ve always been in awe with what Tennyson are able to accomplish musically. The brother-sister duo’s style of music and performance is something we simply haven’t heard anywhere else, and they’re execution is always spot on. If you’ve never heard of these OWSLA artsts before, imagine bubbly, video game music performed live, right in front of you, with some of the cleanest, out-of-the-box sampling you’ve ever heard. Words don’t do their pure musical skill justice, however.

Earlier today, Tennyson shared a video that takes their sound to the next level. In addition to the original two doing what they do best, Tennyson are joined by a live band and a string quartet. The video of them performing “Uh Oh!” is mesmerizing, as you see Luke go between playing the piano, xylophone, and keyboard all the while triggering different samples from a launchpad. Tess masterfully navigates two different drum kits, laying down amazingly complex drum patterns, with an infectious grin on her face.

What’s so great about the video is not only the beautiful performance, but also just the way everyone who is participating seems so happy to be a part of it. It’s easy to see Tennyson love doing what they do, and the musicians who were able to join them for this video share that same joy. Check out the video of the live performance of “Uh Oh!” at Valentine Studios in L.A. below and enjoy!
