Listen To Diplo’s 2017 Sunset Set From Burning Man

burning man diplo

When most people see Diplo behind the decks, they probably expect to hear loud, banging, EDM hits mixed in with the latest hip-hop chart toppers. It would be a fair expectation. When it comes to Burning Man, however, all bets are off.

Last year on a Thursday Evening at Burning Man’s Robot Heart camp, Diplo took the stage to bring down the sun, and went forth to play an hour and a half set full of “afrobeat, deep house, and tribal sounds,” as Diplo called it. The set sounds like nothing you’ve ever heard before from Diplo, and it’s refreshing to see his mixing skills being put to use outside of the world of EDM.

This set sounds perfect for a late summer sunset, and it’s just now surfaced so that you can throw it on whenever you please. Stream the full set below and enjoy!

Skrillex Releases 60+ Minute Techno Set From Burning Man's Robot Heart Camp

skrillex burning man

One of the coolest things about Burning Man is it's openness. The festival has become a center point for freedom of expression. Artists from all over the world have played on its unique art stages and shown a new side to their musical repertoire. Skrillex has just shared his Burning Man set from Robot Heart camp and is a prime example of this.

While Skrillex is mainly known for his bass music -- "Purple Lamborghini" and "Waiting" in most recent months -- he dives into a 60+ minute techno set for Burning Man where he weaves through house beats and ambient sequences.

"This was a really special set because we had all of our friends with us. I brought a lot of first time burners out to the Playa this year. The whole Robot Heart crew took care of us all, and we got to see a lot of the art while I played. This year I collaborated with the team behind Embrace on the Space Whale project.

Hope you enjoy the mix, I mess up a few times but it doesn't really matter because the vibe was so awesome and so real." -- Skrillex

Major Lazer - Robot Heart (2 Hour Long Reggae Set From Burning Man)

PULL UP! More gems from this years Playa (aka Burning Man) are surfacing from relative obscurity with perennial hitmaker Diplo at it once again. Having recently released an elusive 70-minute set of old school hip-hop heaters mixed with house jams new and old, Diplo and his long-time friend Washly Fire went deep into the think tank before taking over the Robot Heart stage as Major Lazer to prepare a dynamic set stacked with classic reggae and dub throwbacks. Diplo had this to say about his RB performance,

[The Robot Heart set was] favorite that we played this year at Burning Man. It was probably the only set that I really prepared for with Walshy Fire.

I'll be honest I was a lil nervous because I really wanted to make it run with energy for the full two hours and our typical audience isn't that used to a classic dub and reggae set. Myself and the whole RH crew wanted to create something really special for a sunset party and keep it true to the theme but to still feel like a Robot Heart set. The Robot Heart crew had told me that they wanted and entire set that sounded like "Major Lazer - Get Free" and I had to think hard about it. To keep the vibe going for two hours and for that record to be the climax was a challenge but I realized if you stick to your guns for the whole party and steer the audience in a direction and keep them with you, then anything is possible. I hope you love it.. It's perfect for a party on a Sunday afternoon and represents a different side of Major Lazer"

The chill vibes throughout the 2-hour set kept those in attendance that fateful sunset in a state of unparallel harmony and will do the same to you upon diving into the stream below! Enjoy
