Thundercat Delivers Impressive TV Performance Of "Them Changes" On 'Colbert'

Thundercat Colbert them changes

Thundercat is undoubtedly one of the more impressive live performers we've had the pleasure of seeing. The prodigy bassist and incredible vocalist has now made a late night appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

We recently were blown away by his Tiny Desk Concert and he's back at it for the special Halloween performance. Dressed as Chiaotzu from Dragonball Z, he joined the house band in addition to playing my favorite song of his "Them Changes" joined by Jon Batiste & Stay Human. Per usual, his voice is angelic and his bass playing is mind blowing. Enjoy!

Thundercat Tiny Desk Concert

There’s nothing like a good Tiny Desk Concert to display an artist’s talents. For NPR’s latest guest in their amazing live video series is Thundercat.

There’s something about Thundercat’s live shows that are just incredible. If you haven’t seen him perform before, be sure to catch him because not only are his bass skills next level, his voice is quite underrated and somehow sounds even better live. For his appearance with Tiny Desk, Thundercat plays “Lava Lamp,” “Friend Zone,” and “Them Changes” off his recent album Drunk as he showcases his wild bass playing abilities. Enjoy!

Thundercat Drunk Artwork

Incredibly talented bassist & vocalist Thundercat has dropped his third studio album Drunk via Fly Lotus’ Brainfeeder label. The 23-track project spans 50 minutes and brings on features from Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, Wiz Khalifa, Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins as well as contributions from Flying Lotus and Kamasi Washington, who's a highly regarded Jazz Sax player that has collaborated with Kendrick Lamar and others.

Thundercat has established himself as a high-demand studio bassist whose wild, frantic basslines have contributed to numerous artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Flying Lotus. Here he takes a very not serious approach to his music as everything from the artwork to the lyrics have a comical tone.

Thundercat’s music is weird. He injects his bizarre personality into his songs along with an endless amount of funk and soul blended with jazz, hip-hop, R&B and more across the genre-blending project. His jazzy basslines are paired with his breezy, dazed vocals across the relaxing and dreamy project. Kendrick, Wiz and Pharrell each contribute exactly how you would expect them to in their signature styles. Stream below and enjoy!
