Making a name for himself with writing credits for the likes of Channel Tres, Gus Dapperton, and more, Barney Bones has quite the impressive musical repertoire. Though, aiding others’ success doesn’t quite feel the same as accomplishing your own dreams as an artist. So, Barney Bones took the leap to begin his own solo project in 2019, releasing his milestone debut EP, ESCAPISM, last week.
Barney lets all of his walls down on ESCAPISM, evoking his every emotion, thought, triumph, and failure through these six tracks. A catharsis of sorts, ESCAPISM serves as a bed for Barney to speak on so many trying topics, all the while flexing his incomparable flow and infectious cadence throughout. From orchestral to dance-forward production, the EP gives all of Bones’ listeners something to love.
Barney commented on the development of the album, sharing:
I wrote this album after taking a trip to Cabo with some friends from high school. We all thought we changed so much, but liquor paired with trauma has a funny way of bringing out your universal truths. The outpouring of tragic memories aligned with the sounds of electronic music felt poetic. Which led me into ESCAPISM. This album has pushed me deep into myself to answer the question, ‘What are you running from?’
