Rising Minneapolis duo, BASTARD, have been turning some heads with their eccentric and modernistic approach to bass music. While both members have previously released music independently, they managed to find a mutual love and appreciation for making music together. Thus, BASTARD was born. This weekend, they’ve released their debut EP, Full Bleed, out now via Renraku.
The duo wastes no time diving deep into some truly dirty and explorative sounds with their lead track “Down Tremendous.” Over the course of the 5-track EP, BASTARD experiment with everything from hard-hitting glitch, to cavernous deep dub, to dark warehouse rave soundscapes. I’m not sure your headphones will do this one justice but we’re confident you’ll be hearing some of these at the biggest festival and club sound systems very soon.
Here’s what the duo had to say about their new project:
“BASTARD is all about our mutual love and appreciation for bass music – from the dark, cavernous, sparse beats to technical & loud bangers; groovy and vibey tracks & head-nodding joints. Taking our love for these sounds and filtering them through the dirt, the decay, the rundown and the abandoned while juxtaposing those sounds with an image that’s irreverent, unserious, unpretentious and grimey.”
