We are now only a couple days out from Flume’s long-awaited follow up to his debut, self titled album released back in 2012. Hype is now at an all time high as the trendsetting Aussie producer has delivered in a big way with each of the releases off his forthcoming album Skin, including “Never Be Like You,” “Say It,” “Smoke & Retribution,” and most recently with his “Lose It” collaboration with Vic Mensa.
Now he’s taken to Zane Lowe’s Beats Radio 1 to premiere one of the most anticipated tracks off the album, his collaboration with none other than Beck. The world premiere of “Tiny Cities” brought both artists into the studio with Zane in which both spoke on how they came to work together. Harley explained how he wanted to capture something that had classic songwriting elements. While Beck comes from a classic songwriting background, he was using a lot of programs when they first came out and described how it’s overwhelming the possibilities of someone like Harley who grew up with the technology and is “fluid and natural sounding.”
The two linked up at Beck’s house in LA and just plugged a mic into Flume’s laptop playing music while Beck was singing gibberish “prowling the room and speaking in tongues.” The intro brings a unique sound from Beck, Flume’s slow, rolling melodies place the vocals at the forefront leading up to a drop filled with shuffling melodies and deep basstones atop an atmospheric sounding backdrop. This new track is yet another amazing song off Skin, and has us even more excited to hear the project in its entirety. Stay tuned for the album, and enjoy! The song starts around the 2:10 mark.
