Franc Moody is back! Two years after the release of their fourth studio album, Into The Ether, the eclectic duo gears up for the arrival of their fifth LP, Chewing The Fat. While we still have to wait until March for the full album to drop, Ned and Jon kindly give fans a taste of what to expect, with “Driving On The Wrong Side Of The Road.”
Opening with a symphony of strings, “Driving On The Wrong Side Of The Road” embraces a theatrical energy, accentuated by Franc Moody’s signature emotive vocals. The track builds upon a simple funk groove, led by a bouncy synth bass line and four-on-the-floor kick. The vocals tastefully enter just slightly off-pitch, creating an uneasiness and sense of anticipation for the chorus to hit, where the vocals take full flight.
Franc Moody shared some background behind the song, commenting:
Armed with mellotrons, drum machines and other crazy synths we delved into a psychedelic and acid driven soundscape with a hint of British seaside crag… The song explores adventure, decadence and a feeling of getting in over your head; of being enchanted by powerful forces. Lost in a moment before coming to one’s senses and realizing the things that really ground us.
