San Holo’s bitbird Label Releases Stacked Compilation Album ‘Gouldian Finch 5’

We absolutely love when record labels put out compilation projects.

It always shows off the depth of talent on their bench, and today’s edition from San Holo‘s bitbird label is no exception. Featuring 21 original tracks by 29 artists, Gouldian Finch 5 features established talent and exciting rising artists.

Of course, label boss San Holo’s “feel something real” is a standout; a pensive track filled with warm melodies and sparkling synth drops. But we also are loving “From You” by Molly Otto and “heartbreak” by Pauline Herr. Otto distills her fresh sound into funky strums of hazy guitar and fuses her airy voice with wavy synth work. Meanwhile, Herr’s track is one of the emotional high points of the compilation. Here, featured singer joegarratt‘s vocals feel like a life raft amidst a current of darker, charging pulses of bass.

Although this is their fifth compilation album, bitbird has finally defined this sound as “art bass.” Here’s how they define the term:

art bass is not a formula or tied to specific rules; It’s more like a vision, a constant yearning to create something unique and bring something new to the electronic music scene. We believe most artists on bitbird are driven by this urge to express themselves in their own unique way, no matter what.
