It takes a lot of nerve to step up and remix a masterpiece. Porter Robinson and Madeon’s “Shelter” was easily one of the best produced electronic songs of the past year (roughly) by streaming numbers alone. There’s no denying that. JayKode, however, took it upon himself to create his own rendition of “Shelter.” A bold move, for sure, but he knocked it out of the park.
JayKode didn’t try to do too much this one. He made just the right tweaks in all the right places to turn “Shelter” into an electronic R&B track. The most noticeable change is in the drums. By switching the beat and adding some lo-fi elements that include some deep 808s, he’s changed the groove of the entire track without messing with the beautiful tone of the original.
We’ll always appreciate the style of Porter and Madeon, but if you’re a big fan of hip-hop, you’re going to love JayKode’s remix of “Shelter”. Give the tune a listen below. Enjoy!
