The musical of talent of John Frusciante knows no bounds. The beloved mastermind guitarist for Red Hot Chili Peppers debuted the first solo electronic album under his own name this evening (he used to go by (Trickfinger), and it’s a supersonic treat for your ears.
Some of the stuff on this album dives into the same IDM intricacies you might hear from Aphex Twin or Floating Points. It’s wild to hear this kind of stuff from John when most of us know him from his work with RHCP. We’re used to the image of him rocking out on stage, but listening to Maya has us imaging him raving in a European night club in the wee hours of the morning.
The work just on his drums alone is enough your jaw on the floor, but from top to bottom this album is some next level shit. Maya is very unexpected, but also very Frusciante.
According to John, he titled the album Maya after his pet cat who recently passed away.
