Kendrick Lamar has been invited to The Big Hit Show to discuss and break down one of the most celebrated hip-hop albums of this generation, To Pimp A Butterfly.

The Big Hit Show is a podcast “about the biggest hits of our time. The people who make them, how they make them, how they become huge, and these surprising things that happen when they’re out in the world.” In season one, The Big Hit Show covered the success of the Twilight series. Now, host Alex Pappademas is set to examine Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly.

Throughout the season, Kendrick Lamar will speak about the project, in addition to appearances from collaborators such as George Clinton, Thundercat, Flying Lotus, and more.

Below is an excerpt from the first episode, which features Kendrick talking about how deep he was in his songwriting at the time:

When you guys reached out about doin’ this. I had to go and revisit that record. And when I revisit that record, I wanna say it’s about 60% vocals, words, sounds, tones, lyrics that I don’t even know when where or how they came to me. That’s how deep we was in it. And you can ask anybody that’s doing this. I can guarantee they feel the same. It was a spiritual moment. A whole journey. Seriously. But that’s the beauty of it.

You can expect this type of reflection from Kendrick about To Pimp A Butterfly on this season of The Big Hit Show. The first episode is available right now on Spotify. You can listen below. New episodes arrive once a week. Enjoy!
