It’s been a busy year for one of our favorite indie dance bands. After an acclaimed album release over the summer, Little Dragon is back in a big way with a surprise EP. And not just a regular EP, but a full collaboration project with D.C. duo April + VISTA.
Consisting of four tracks, Slipping Into Color paints a vivid picture of sound. April + VISTA bring their soulful, trippy R&B sound, which Little Dragon weaves into their eccentric electronic sound. Leading song “Layers” lives up to its name with its sweeping lines of luxurious violin and ethereal vocals from both Yukimi Nagano and April George.
“Nowhere Else To Go” is a lazily meandering track filled with shimmering chimes and cool washes of bluesy bass. Meanwhile things heat up on “Rebels,” which features strong percussion and a dance-forward beat. EP closer “Slumber” is a laidback night-cap of a track, filled with a lullaby of rich string textures.
Here’s what Little Dragon had to say about the collab:
“On a recent trip to the US we got to hang with April + VISTA and we couldn’t resist their sound. This EP represents an intense week of diving deep into the musical universe together with them. [We spent a week together in the studio] just creating, laughing and sharing stories.”
And here’s what April + Vista had to say:
“We practically lived in the studio, ate breakfast together and made noise for the rest of the day. Working with Little Dragon on this EP was nothing short of a dream. It’s an experience we’ll always cherish.”
If you’re lucky enough to catch Little Dragon on their sold out tour this fall, April + VISTA will be opening up for them. Make sure to give this EP a listen below. Enjoy!
