LP Giobbi‘s sophomore album, Dotr, is here. An ode to three powerful women she lost just last year, LP pays tribute to Patricia Lynn, her mother-in-law, Carolyn Horn, her piano teacher since second grade, and Suse Millman, a longtime family friend. In true LP Giobbi fashion, we were uplifted and deeply touched by each and every track.
Dotr takes the listener on an emotional journey, beginning in a state of loss and grief, and ending in an optimistic mindset of hope for the future. We are in awe of the story LP has so carefully crafted throughout the album. Beginning with “Intro: Patricia Lynn,” Giobbi delivers a minimalistic, heartfelt introduction, setting the stage for the following sixteen tracks. From there, the energy rises, with moments of dance floor-ready house like “So Nice To Be In Love” with Mascolo, and the ethereal “Really Good” with Reva DeVito. In between the highest of highs, Giobbi pulls the energy back to dedicate beautiful tributes to the ones she’s lost. We could go on and on about the intricacies of Dotr, but you need to go listen to it for yourself!
LP shared the meaning behind the album, commenting:
Named after the way I signed notes to my parents as a kid, Dotr begins in loss and then turns forward with hope for what comes next.
