Name included, GoGo Penguin are quite the unique act. The English three-piece have been lauded for their distinctive, instrumental sound that fuses elements of jazz, electronica, downtempo. The Manchester-based trio have put together a remix album for their fifth album, which will be called GGP RMX and feature an array of innovative remixers.
The first released remix comes from a highly talented and eclectic producer, LA’s Machinedrum. He’s taken on the piano and percussion heavy track “Atomised” and flipped it masterfully, while still keeping some of the beautiful keys from the original. Machinedrum brings a little extra energy with a crisp breakbeat, arpeggiating synths, and evolving melodies. After a dazzling initial buildup, this extended remix takes a turn, bringing those synths deeper into a dark headspace. This track is quite the ride.
