Everything about the release of Mija’s upcoming debut EP is a reflection of the authentic style she has shown us throughout her career. She continually evolves and now we hear her vocals on one of her own tracks for the first time.
The EP, titled How To Measure The Distance Between Lovers, is a DIY self-release run by the artist herself, reflecting the independent drive we’ve seen Mija channel into other projects like her stacked “fk a genre” tour that enlisted top artists put on crazy shows across the country, and her innovative “made by mija” fashion line that extended her work into the world of fashion. More recently, Mija hopped on a loaded tour with Zeds Dead, and announced spots at Bonnaroo and Summer Camp Music Festival.
Now Mija has gifted us the second single off her EP, and it’s called “Notice Me”. Mija takes a huge step forward in her career with this track by singing on it herself. This is the first time Mija has ever lent her vocal talents to a track, and we’re definitely impressed. By singing on “Notice Me” she adds a raw, emotional element to a track that at time feels vulnerable, serene, and powerful. The production is fantastically diverse, incorporating light piano melodies and delicate percussion before abruptly collapsing into a bass-heavy, oriental-inspired section. After the twangs fade away, Mija uses an overwhelming synth crescendo to lead it all back to the melancholy, delicate sound the song started with.
If the innovative production has left you searching for meaning, check out Mija’s description of “Notice Me” below:
“this song is about the feedback loop inside ur head, consuming all of ur attention. and the release of all the fucks u never should have given in the first place.”
You can catch Mija right now on her “Never B Alone” tour, check out the dates below and keep an eye out for the How To Measure The Distance Between Lovers EP dropping February 9. Enjoy!
