From dropping multiple free singles, to joining Pete Tong for a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix then going on to release his debut album only days later, it’s no wonder that Mura Masa has been featured on TSIS almost every month this year. Now, having finally slowed down a bit after remixing Bonzai's "I Feel Alright", media collective Mass Appeal has caught up with the English-producer for their latest episode of Rhythm Roulette.
For those unfamiliar with Rhythm Roulette, it is a video series in which producers are challenged to make a beat from three randomly selected records. Producers such as Larry Fisherman (Mac Miller), ESTA and Mr. Carmack have been featured in the past.
For this new episode, Mura Masa’s is given William Basinski’s “A Shadow in Time”, Luis’ “Dreamt Takes” and Cognition’s “The Road” to work with. Watch below as Mura Masa masterfully blends dark soundscapes, pitched vocals and non-traditional percussion into an incredibly unique disco/reggae-inspired track. Enjoy!
