Singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist Billy Kim may be releasing his first album IMAGO later this year, but he is by no means a newcomer to the music scene. He has been touring since the age of 17, featured in Rolling Stone, and was keys, bass, and guitar for Tycho’s band over the last few years. Now, the California native is starting up his side project, Karaboudjan, and kicking it off by teaming up with us to premiere the lead single from his debut record, a song titled “Seems Like.”
Karaboudjan’s self-described vibe is “dreamy psych-indie rock” and this track encapsulates that ambiance effortlessly. Trading off between passionate guitar riffs and his fuzzy vocals, the sound comes together to create a sense of nostalgia. And that’s exactly what he’s trying to achieve with this endeavor: melodies that transport you to memories of youth and sound waves that create a sense of adventure.
This is what Kim said about his new moniker:
The name Karaboudjan had always fascinated me – it was the name of a ship in The Adventures of Tin Tin. For me, Karaboudjan reminds me of the purity of my youth and its enormous curiosity of life unlived.
“Seems Like” comes out Friday, March 26, but we are stoked to offer you an exclusive early listen below. Enjoy!
