Producers have long made careers out of producing songs for other artists. It can be highly lucrative work and a great way to get your material out in the world without being in the spotlight yourself. Since the mid-00s we’ve seen the steady rise of electronic music provide an opportunity for producers to find a limelight of their own, and today we’re excited to share Toronto-based artist, POLUN, get his with his debut single, “Higher Ground.”
Under the producer/songwriter moniker Terence “TEE” Lam, he made his industry debut in 2014 and co-wrote on two Billboard Hot 100 hits—triple-platinum singles “Here” by Alessia Cara and “Too Good” by Drake ft Rihanna. Undeterred by different genres, Lam also wrote for major electronic artists like Adventure Club, DVBBS, and Kaskade. He now dawns the title POLUN, and combines his years of experience and fine-tuned taste with featured artist Gracie Ella into his debut single, “Higher Ground,” saying:
“Higher Ground” combines all the things I love about dance, pop and R&B music. I knew I wanted a playful yet sexy vocal to complement the slower tempo of the groove. As soon as I heard Gracie’s voice on the track, it just felt right. Her sultry and soulful voice was the perfect finishing touch on this bop!
This fresh single comes from POLUN’s debut EP, Trillium, a unique project inspired by his life’s journey. We’re head over heels for this first glimpse of this new chapter, and we can’t wait to hear what this seasoned vet has in store next. Stream “Higher Ground” by POLUN below. Enjoy!
