PREMIERE | Saint Lane Pens Upbeat, Clever Break Up Tune “Toothbrush”

If you need a musical pick-me-up, look no further than “Toothbrush” the cheery new single from Aussie rapper-artist Saint Lane.

In what’s come to be his signature style established in earlier releases, Saint Lane’s songwriting talent shines over warm guitar chords and a laid-back beat. His clever lyrics tell the story of a couple that moves in together, only to discover they are incompatible. For what could be considered a sadder subject matter, Saint Lane takes a decidedly blasé tone, his music taking a metaphorical shrug as if to say, “it is what it is”. It’s the type of infectious song that just makes you feel like everything is gonna be alright.

The story of the song is actually inspired by a real-life encounter Saint Lane had with an Uber driver he met on the way to the studio.

I asked him what has been happening in his life and he said he met his girlfriend in university before COVID and they signed a year lease together after only knowing each other for two months. When he moved in, he smoked a joint and his girlfriend freaked out and broke up with him saying she could never be with a ‘drug addict’ so now they just co-exist in the house until the lease is up. He dropped me off to the studio and I wrote a song about his situation.

Having shared the stage with the likes of Earl Sweatshirt and J.I.D., Saint Lane is definitely bound for a promising career with his lyrical talent.

Releasing everywhere tomorrow, you can catch this exclusive premiere of “Toothbrush” using the link below. Enjoy!
