Longtime TSIS favorite Pretty Lights has revealed some pretty incredible news to close out 2016.
Colorado newspaper Denver Post reports that Derek Smith (PL) will be releasing a full new studio album in early 2017. "It’s not just a music record," Smith says, "I’m actually making a film with it, as well." The exciting announcement comes after three years of fans patiently waiting for the Colorado icon to release his next body of work since Color Map of the Sun.
"I’m trying to make a film and a record that’s really about the connection of people — the amazing things that happen between people on the same frequency. It will be an episodic thing that makes a full piece. Every song has an episode."
Despite only releasing one new song over the past couple years, he's commanded things on the live front with his mesmerizing show that is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. He's continued to make his mark on top of countless festival sets, to throwing his own annual camping festival in Telluride or his new touring Episodic festival this past fall.
Smith goes on to say that the album connects to his music festival.
"When I was booking that tour, I wanted to call it “The Weekend’s Episodic Festivals.” I didn’t know why I wanted to call it that, but it’s all going together. Every festival, we’d have a film shoot that became the building blocks of these episodic film pieces. It’s pretty (cool)."
From the sound of it, each date of his last Episodic tour will be turned into a song / episode for the album / film. We couldn't be more excited for what's to come from Pretty Lights. TSIS has reached out to get more details on the project so stay tuned. As always, enjoy!
