Side projects serve as a chance for artists to showcase a different aspect of their sound, and maybe even explore a new persona entirely. For Ross From Friends, his Bubble Love alias arose from the desire to explore the unknown and take a chance on himself. Today, Ross From Friends teases his debut album as Bubble Love with double-single, “Double Caper / Hate.”
“Double Caper” and “Hate” perfectly compliment one another. Ross From Friends kicks things off with a disco-inspired groove, utilizing retro sampling and a handful of repeating vocal melodies to allow listeners to sing along. “Hate” speeds things up with a drum-and-bass-influenced beat, experimenting with a minimalistic arrangement consisting only of drums, bass, one to two synth sounds, and the occasional vocal sample.
Ross From Friends commented on the meaning behind his Bubble Love alias, sharing:
Bubble Love is an impulse. A desire to do anything but sit still. No thinking anymore, just doing. Flip a coin and follow the path. Life’s way too short.
