If anyone’s up to big things in 2018 it’s Seven Lions. The melodic dubstep favorite announced Ophelia, his new label and home for a diverse repertoire of impending tracks, last month. After dropping single “Calling You Home” as the first release on Ophelia, Seven Lions is back today with two jawdropping collaborations with Anjunabeats signee Jason Ross titled “Ocean” feat. John Mendelsohn and “The Sirens.” The two teased these tracks for the first time during their b2b set at Above & Beyond’s ABGT250 in September, and it’s safe to say it was worth the wait on this official release.
The best way to describe “Ocean” truly is as a song of the sea. Mendelsohn’s tone is as effortless as the ebb and flow of the tide, floating smoothly over the bright production. When it comes to the drop, the synth chords hit hard again and again like waves returning to the shore without fail. It’s one of those classic Seven Lions tracks that will somehow make you want to laugh and bang your head at the same time, and we’re loving it.
If one thing is for certain, however, “Ocean” absolutely will not prepare you for the wildness that is “The Sirens.” Both Seven Lions and Jason Ross prove the depth of their diversity with this monstrous collab, giving listeners a furious-paced psytrance intro that dives deep into a dubstep-infused drop. It’s everything we love about the other side of Seven Lions – that unexpected darkness that leaps to the surface on tracks like “Lucy” and “Serpent of Old.” Check out both of these massive collabs below and enjoy!
